To let pukey ds have pasta?

Sorry - this should be in children's health, but I am tired and need an answer...

2 1/2 yr old ds has had vomiting and the squits for 36 hrs now. Every tiny sip of water comes back up again. He's even dry retching and bringing up bile.

He just tried some pasta and brought it straight back up again, Now he is asking for some more. wwyd?

He also wants milk, but that has produced a terrifying gyser of vomit twice since this started, so am saying no to that.

He is bfing and has mostly kept breast milk down since this morning.

More pasta for the agrieved, wailing, pukey boy? Or no?

No I wouldn't give him more Pasta. Have you spoken to your Doctor?

If he can keep the breast milk down then keep on with that, will be helping in all kinds of ways (fighting the infection, rehydration etc as you already know I'm sure )

If he is still vomiting etc in 12-24 hours then I would personally get medical advice.

I would try every distraction possible to avert his requests for food (although you are possibly too knackered by now?) How about something less soggy than pasta, half a rich tea biscuit or a tiny piece of dry toast?

Hope he is better soon.

If you haven't done already I would speak to the doctor.

I agree don't give him pasta, speak to your doctor or NHS direct. If he can keep breast milk down, let him feed as much as you can, it is the best thing for him.

I would also avoid the food - hydration is more important than food when they're ill like that. I would be talking to a doctor at this point too...

muggglewump · 31/07/2010 16:17

I don't think it'll do any harm, but not much point really if he'll just puke again.

I don't let DD eat food until I'm fairly sure the puking is over as I'm emetophobic and can't cope with food puke.

Call NHS Direct and give him some rehydration drinks if you have some.

Having said that, I bet it feels better to throw up something than keep retching on an empty stomach.

Bless him.
