to be irritated with this fb 'friend'

I have an acquaintance in RL who is amongst my friends on facebook. Her facebook posts largely consist of what she has bought from where and they are always items that are in an expensive price range (boden, that posh paint brand, designer online children's shops etc), the pictures of which are lovely and I don't blame her for wanting to show them off.

However, it irritates me when, in the next breath, she is moaning about how poor she is on her household income of £40k and how when she doesn't get her tax credits from next year she doesn't know how they'll cope and that she had to have beans on toast for tea as she's so poor.

I realise that it's none of my business and I should just ignore but it drives me insane!

Her money, her choice what she spends it on, her facebook status to write on whatever she likes. If you don't want to read it, de-friend her!

Can you 'hide' her, I've done that with a few people on facebook.

hairytriangle · 31/07/2010 08:13

Yanbu! Block her though so you don't have to read her silliness.

DuelingFanjo · 31/07/2010 08:44

you can hide her status up-dates.

porcamiseria · 31/07/2010 08:45

delete her, problem solved

MandyMcFly · 31/07/2010 09:37

YANBU, I find it unbelievable when people think they are poor on that kind of income. Just make adjustments to your lifestyle if you can't afford it, there is no reason to be poor on £40,000 unless your living above your means or right up to the last penny.

SixtyFootDoll · 31/07/2010 09:39

Hide her.
Ihave hidden a few people as hteir dreary updates are so boring.

MathsMadMummy · 31/07/2010 09:47

YANBU, but her life, her choice etc. One of my closest friends is a bit like that, buys really expensive stuff and then says because her DH earns a lot it's unfair they don't get benefits (we do, as DH earns a rather paltry £17k) as they end up just as skint as anyone else

errrrrrrm stop buying expensive stuff and going out every other night then!

but it's about priorities innit. I just don't care about having 'nice' things, but they make my friend happy. as long as she doesn't end up in debt because of the brand obsession, it's not hurting anyone.

Iwishiwasasleep · 31/07/2010 09:53

Hide her posts. No point being irritated everytime you open fb.

Firawla · 31/07/2010 09:56

oh i wouldnt really mind this as i am quite nosy so would be interested what shes buying

depends what you're comparing it with whether 40k is well off or not, i dont think you can class it as loaded or nething, i wouldnt be bothered by it really

SirBoobAlot · 31/07/2010 10:13

I know someone similar (but worse) and she annoys me endlessly. Have blocked her updates.

MathsMadMummy · 31/07/2010 10:20

It is quite lame to take photos of what she buys IMO. neeeeeedyyyyyyyy......

SirBoobAlot · 31/07/2010 10:21

MMM

eidsvold · 31/07/2010 10:23

that is why you have a delete option.

abbierhodes · 31/07/2010 11:06

She sounds more dull than anything else tbh. What boring status updates!

BarmyArmy · 31/07/2010 11:36

"Her money, her choice"...

No, not really, she's on tax credits which means she's receiving other people's money to subsidise this lifestyle - so actually it's all of our business.

Taking benefits away from people like this and retaining it only for those that genuinely need it will restore people's sense of responsibility and hopefully limit their plans for having a family at other people's expense.
