to think that my 9 year old neice should not be wearing 4 inch heals

i went to my mil with my 2 dd's today and she was looking after my 9 year old neice. we decided to go to asda to pick up some bargin nappies in there baby event and could not believe the shoes my neice was wearing. her mother ( my sil ) had sent her to her nans wearing 4 inch cubed heals. she obviously could not walk in them and when i asked her why she was wearing them she said that herr mum bought them for her. as i was walking round the clothing section and my mil and neice walked off i overheard another shopper ask herfriend if she had noticed that kids shoes and how awful it was.

what on earth is your SIL thinking

compo · 30/07/2010 21:44

Yanbu

but it's heels

pedantic , sorry

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/07/2010 21:45

YANBU! Apart from the aesthetics, how incredibly bad for her feet/ankles!

Poor girl - did your MIL buy her a pair of cheapie flats to wear instead?

i dont think that my SIL has a brain tbh, although she could probably spell heels. i know SIL bashing can be a bit boring on here but i could go on forever if i got started on her.

There was a little girl is tesco the other day, around 8 I'd say, wearing very high heels too. She was walking very well in them, so I assume she must do it fairly often. I just don't think it's good for their feet - nor their ankles when they go over on them. Little girls that age should be borrowing Mums to 'dress-up', not owning a bloody pair... IMHO of course.

Mumcentreplus · 30/07/2010 22:10

Chip if I left my DD who is 8 to her own devices she would definantely own a pair of high heels...I let her try a pair on briefly in Marks and she was strutting her stuff like a bluddy cat-walk model!! (this coming from a mother who has rarely worn heels for the last 9yrs)

Al1son · 30/07/2010 22:46

What worries me is if they wear adult clothing, shoes, make-up now, what will they do to make themselves feel grown up when they are teenagers? Errr...that'll have to be smoking, sex and drugs?

ChippingIn · 30/07/2010 22:48

Mumcentreplus I think most of them would given half a chance!!

The thing with the little girl I mentioned was that they were black, completely co-ordinated with the clothes she was wearing etc. It's hard to describe - she was very much 'at home' in them shopping... I know it's not the end of the world, but I just don't think it's good for them?!

pud1 · 31/07/2010 10:57

i agree totaly with Al1son. she also wears very heavy make-up which her mother applies for her. the odd thing is her hair is like rats tails. it is curly and her mum harldy ever brushes it.

ugggh. YANBU, even if mostly for the sake of her feet!

I hate heels anyway, I wear decent trainers and I reckon my feet will thank me for it when I'm ancient.

valleyqueen · 31/07/2010 11:11

My dd who is 11 has a pair of 5 inch heels. She go them in the peacocks sale for £4 she wanders round the house in them and wore them on Xmas day at my mums. Hell would freeze over before I let her where them out or for longer than an hour.

Forget the fact she looks ridiculous in them they are really bad for their growing feet. I showed her a picture of bunions, and that put a stop to her wanting to wear them out. In fact when I move I may very accidently lose them.

sapphireblue · 31/07/2010 11:25

makes me really cross tbh........why can't we just let children be children?! I saw a little girl of 3 or 4 the other day in the park weaing wellies with a good 2 inch heel on them. Absolutely ridiculous!

valleyqueen · 31/07/2010 12:41

Wellies with heels? Wear on earth do they sell this stuff?

southeastastra · 31/07/2010 12:43

we used to go out in my older sisters cast off platforms shoes in the 70s

TrillianAstra · 31/07/2010 13:29

What compo said.

pigletmania · 31/07/2010 14:12

I would have bought her a nice pair of trainers or flat shoes, some people have no sense. My dd is going to be in trainers and clarks shoes for as long as possible.
