To think that yes I do need another pushchair

I have a double (out and about nipper) like this :

www.boots.com/en/Out-n-About-Nipper-Double-360-Pushchair-Red_53289/?CAWELAID=334501822&cm_mmc=Shoppi ng%20Engines--Google%20Base----_-Out%20n%20About%20Nipper%20Double%20360%20Pushchair%20Red

that I have used for the last 4 years and through three children. It is a wonderful pushchair and perfect for where we USED to live which was all walkingm roads, lanes etc etc.

We have moved and I am expecting our fourth child, my next oldest is 17 months so will also be in the pushchair.

Now we lived to far from shops etc for me to walk so I will need to get the bus possibly to take my daughter to school as well depending on the school she is allocated (we havent heard yet since moving).

My husband and MIL think it is perfectly reasonable for me to get the newborn out of this pushchair (it is way to big for a bus unfolded), get my currently non walking 17 month old out carry both of them plus this large pushchair onto the bus and also keep an eye on my three year old and 5 year old while doing that and possibly do this up to 4 times a day depending on the schools and nursery?

I want to buy a smaller pushchair that I have a chance of wheeling on at least some of the time. Its not a question of money they are just saying why do you need another and that the above scenario is perfectly reasonable?

is it? shall I just buy one and have it delivered?!

YANBU.

The old one suited your needs once, but is just not practical now. You need a new one.

Handling buggies on public transport is a flippin' nightmare at the best of times and I wouldn't use a wide double like that one.

you need a new one. Can you get a tandem? Presumably would be able to push it onto a bus (paticularly if you get a Phil and Teds type one or cheaper alternative). Recommend having a look at www.jusonne.co.uk where you can look at a wide range.......something like the Othello looks quite compact. I researched doubles extensively whilst pg with DD2!

sapphireblue · 30/07/2010 16:36

p.s if you're having problems convincing DH, send him out on the bus with all 4 DCs and then ask him again

sweetkitty · 30/07/2010 16:41

YANBU there is no way you will be able to lift a heavy toddler and a baby out of a double and fold it to get it on a bus, where are you supposed to put them whilst you fold the pram and deal with any bags etc?

That's if the buses actually stop for you, around here they go straight past if they see you with a pram and the pram bays are already full.

Your best bet would be too put the newborn in a sling and get a compact single for the bus.

I drive and have a 6yo, 4yo, 2yo and a baby so know how hard it is

Jane054848 · 30/07/2010 17:00

They are nuts. You cannot possibly do this. You shouldn't have to prove this to them, but I like the idea of you forcing each of them to try it themselves with the four kids, just to teach them a lesson. Although one of the kids would probably end up jumping off the bus, so perhaps best not.

Sweetkitty's suggestion is vg. Tandem would also work.

Mingg · 30/07/2010 17:15

Get a new one. I've got 1 toddler and 3 pushchairs...

Morloth · 30/07/2010 17:16

Tell them to pull their heads in and then go and get whatever you need.

curlymama · 30/07/2010 17:19

I would buy two just to annoy the MIL.

nimbs · 30/07/2010 17:29

Def need another - we have the out n about double and only use it for our walks with the dog or if dh home with the car - it's too big to get on the buses - especially if someone else is on the bus already with a pram/buggy.

We have a side by side pushchair - a Maclaren one which is great for public transport.

We did have the Combi We2 but I knackered it by walking the dog with it, as it's def. a town pushchair - ideal though as it folds up very small,is the lightest on the market as far as I know and has a solid bar so great when I had to push the twins in the double but hold on to DD1's hand as she was liable to bolt-and for DS to hold onto the other side.

So imho you definately need another pushchair!

FlyMeToDunoon · 02/08/2010 16:51

Anyone selling their Nipper?

GeekOfTheWeek · 02/08/2010 16:54

YANBU

Any excuse for another pushchair. Ds2(8 months) is on his 5th one!

Dinkytinky · 02/08/2010 17:01

Do it!! Or - get your DH to show you how it's done without any help at all mwahahaha

ChippingIn · 02/08/2010 17:09

Get a car.

If you can't for whatever reason then order whatever you think will help you manage 4 kids on public transport - I'm thinking a nanny myself so if all you buy is a buggy, your DH/MIL are getting off light.

Anymore whinging about it from either of them - then do as others have said - make each of them do it themselves!!

BonniePrinceBilly · 02/08/2010 17:11

Why does the MIL get any opinion? Come to that, why does the husband get an opinion? He wouldn't in my house. you are not a silly little woman who needs to be told when or how you can spend money or what you need for when you will be looking after your children.

MumNWLondon · 02/08/2010 17:55

Any double buggy on a bus is a total nightmare. Especially with 4 children. I have tried a double maclaren on a bus and it was not any fun - and the wheel feel off when I got off. After that used single and buggy board.

I am not sure a P&T would be any better. Probably best to get a really cheap lightweight buggy for the toddler (sort of buggy that you don't need anyone's approval to buy) and use a sling for the baby. When the toddler is bigger can use a buggy board etc.

Anyway if you sell the nipper and buy a 2nd hand smaller buggy why would anyone care? I gave away my double maclaren because it wasn't in good condition - you can get one on ebay for around £30.
