We went to Turkey. There are hundreds of dogs. Mainly just wandering about unattended. All impeccably trained. Yet even though these dogs wander about alone, no one ever complains about them, because they never bother anyone and there is no dog shit. Anywhere. I didn't even see one single poo.

They even have the buses issue down to a tee. The first bus I was on a Turkish girl aged about 7/8 jumped up to let a British pregnant woman sit down. There were plenty of young, English males who never bothered

The second bus the same happened again. A couple of elderly Turkish ladies got on the bus. Immediately all the Turks on the bus vacated their seats to let these ladies sit down.

I though it was us English who were meant to be known for our manners and love of animals?

not read whole thread, just had to post re dogs poo/bushes.

Do they really wander off to find a bush? Would they, for instance, stop a doggie chat/sniff they were having and excuse themselves for a mo'?

No dog shit on the streets here where I live, either - owners pick it up. There was outrage when one dog owner didn't - it's so rare that eeveryone knew who it was.

Haven't really seen dog shit on the pavements for years - am in UK..,.

Ahhh I see.

Had fabulous image of dogs excusing themselves to 'wash their paws'

I remember reading once that there was one turkish holiday village that kept the cats and dogs around for the tourists and then had a big cull in the off season.

Appearances can be deceptive sometimes!

TBH the dogs are probably too hot and hungry and downtrodden to have the energy to run around barking and jumping at people. They probably save all their energy for searching for food and shade.
