A rant really, not sure if this is the right place but not sure were to put it.

really really want to move abroad to live and work. either New Zealand or Australia but would consider USA and Canada - anywhere where English is commonly spoken in schools as ds has special educational needs and i don't think he would pick up another language, BUT nowhere wants me!!!! I (and dh) don't have a skill or a qualifiction that anyone wants, have no immediate family living abroad but have a willingness to work (doing anything) and pay my own way and a little money to go with but that seems not enough!

aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

thanks for reading just had to get it off my chest as i have spent the last two nights doing research

It's quite hard to get into the UK, afaik.

ib · 28/07/2010 20:10

What makes you think you could get into Britain if you weren't in already?

HecateQueenOfWitches · 28/07/2010 20:10

Is there anything on the list that you could get? - skill / qualification ?

thelunar66 · 28/07/2010 20:12

You don't really mean what you put in your thread title OP.

Nobody is stopping you leaving Britain.

It's the countries you are wanting to enter that are causing your difficulties.

Cadders1 · 28/07/2010 20:13

It is difficult to get citizenship in the UK - not so difficult to get a work Visa if you are filling a particular need in the job market. It is easier to get permenant residency in NZ and Aus if you already have a work visa and are sponsered by an employer. Any chance you could go down that route?

Why do you want to leave the UK?

Callisto · 28/07/2010 20:16

If you really, really want to move to Australai/NZ you need to have a look at the skills list that they are recruiting for and re-train in that area. A nursing qualification will get you into most other English speaking nations. Otherwise get a job with a company who will sponsor you to get out there.

I actually think you are being rather unreasonable. You can leave the UK whenever you want, but why should the country of your choice let you in when you have no skills they want and will just be a liability?

countydurhamlass · 28/07/2010 20:19

no, don't really mean it thelunar 66, i am just so frustrated and sometimes it just feels that way, especially since we have had so many non british people arriving in our area to work (i have no problem with this whatsoever)and i can't seem to get into any of the countries i want.

hecatequeenofwitche - i have started a degree with Open University which could lead to a variety of jobs such a youth work, working with families, working with children (but not teaching) so hopefully this will help.

It is just as hard to get into the UK as it is to get into any of the other countries you mention. In fact, with David Cameron's ridiculous cap on immigration, which started last week, it is harder. The exception is that because Britain is in the EU, other EU nationals (apart from Romania and Bulgaria) can work her pretty freely.

No country wants people without relevant skills or qualifications, sorry.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 28/07/2010 20:25

Well, you can go and live and work in any EU country you want.

Why don't you have a look at the Home Office website and see if you could actually come into the UK from a non-EU country? I think you might well encounter exactly the same problems.

SloanyPony · 28/07/2010 20:42

I am from one of those countries you want to get into. Yes, it is hard to get in. But for me to get in here, I had to get married. After getting married, I had to apply for further leave to remain. After that expired (1 year) I had to apply for indefinite leave to remain. I then had to wait a further 4 years, do an exam about random things vaguely to do with living in the UK (!), then do reams of paperwork, pay a hefty fee, do a ceremony, and THEN apply for a passport!

If I hadn't had some stupid mug such a nice man who wanted to marry me, I would have had to go home, forever.

So its not that easy.
