spending ridiculous amounts of money on extras.

This year we flew out to France on BA.
Baggage weight limit is 23kilos. Fine for me as my case was 20 and also for DD whose case was 22.9! (but then she is a teenager...)

Flew back on EasyJet where weight limit is 20 and they then charge 12Euros per kilo it is over weight thus adding £30 to the price of the flight

The reason we'd booked on BA which the price seemed more but when you added up the extras you pay on the cheaper quoted price by EasyJet, it worked out pretty much the same.

What I really want to know (not being technically minded is AIBU to be pissed off as to why there should be a discrepancy in the weight limits - the planes are of a similar size?
If someone can explain the mechanics please do!

BB,

didn't want you to fall fowl of easyjey luggage policy. You only get 20kgs per bag that you have paid for. There confirmation is very misleading though. You can have up to 32kgs per case, but they will charge you for the excess over 20kgs.

Checked Baggage

Every item of standard checked ('hold') baggage will incur a fee. The applicable online fee will be displayed at the time of booking baggage (whether during or after booking your flight). Alternatively, you may choose to pay a higher charge at the airport. You will be advised of this charge at the airport. Payment of the fee provides you with an aggregate allowance of 20kg across all pieces of hold baggage which may only be increased by payment of excess weight charges.

The maximum acceptable weight for each single piece of checked-in hold baggage is 32kg. Baggage which exceeds this weight will not be accepted for carriage.

Where checked-in hold baggage exceeds 20kgs in weight (subject to the above rule), each passenger will pay an excess baggage charge per kg up to a passenger maximum of 50kgs, as follows:

Currency Excess Baggage per kg
GBP 10.00
EUR 12.00
CHF 20.00
DKK 88.00
CZK 320.00
HUF 3200.00
PLN 48.00
SKK 440.00
MAD 140.00

BB that email sounds ok until you read the fine print from Hersetta above.

Pretty much all airlines have the 32kgs per bag max for H&S rules for handlers.

Am thinking 40kgs will be accepted, with any above tht chargable.

Try and get an email stating the 64kgs between 2 bags is exempt from excess baggage charges.

With Easyjet, hand luggage must be within the max measurements and you must be able to lift it into the overheads without assistance.

BollockBrain · 30/07/2010 16:21

right, I am not bothered about the hand baggage allowance, we just take a little bit each. but looks like i shall have to read my small print about the difference between 40 and 64 kg. I really dont want to pay extra. will report back and see if it is the same as herseta above and also will take the advice to email. Thanks

PS I doubt very much if our suitcases will need 64kg of stuff in it as we travel very light, but deffo worth knowing if i will incur a fee if i took say 2kg extra in each.

BollockBrain · 30/07/2010 16:31

My small print seems to be the same as you have Herseta and MixedNut. Have emailed. will let you all know. And thanks for your help.

I'v travelled all over with Easyjet (proper airports too-Paris, Alicante) and never had a bit of bother. Never had a problem with seats, but if I did anyone is welcome to sit next to DD as I know it wont be long before they'd be begging me to change with them.

LaundryLyne · 30/07/2010 16:55

I have found the staff to be rude and unhelpful. I would not use EasyJet by choice.

SomeGuy · 30/07/2010 19:27

Last time I went on Easyjet we were the last to board, cos we like to leave everything to the last minute, and they'd kindly blocked off the last row of the plane for us, so we could sit together - presumably they'd seen a family on the manifest and decided to be helpful.
