A neighbour down the road seems to have many cats, which seem to love coming in my garden.

i really dont want to clean up after someone elses cat, as i know they carry diseases in their poop. i really find it gross and dont like it, i also have two kids, so i am forever checking the garden before they play.

wwyd?

When I see one actually in the garden I run straight at it shouting loudly and waving my arms around. That seems to scare them away and they seem reluctant to come back

barnsleycatie · 27/07/2010 20:42

I was told a sealed bottle of water (like a 2ltr lemonade one) in the garden keeps them away? Dunno if it works as I have a cat (which does nothing to keep the other cats away!)

we are having the exact same problem at the moment. neighbours either side of us have cats, and they keep pooing in our front garden right under our window.

I couldn't help myself today i went and bought some cactus to plant there

I will report back if it works.

Its one thing getting hold of tiger poo if you live near a zoo but lions' wee? Can just imagine running along behind the lion with a bucket to stick between its legs every time it squats down!

shockers · 27/07/2010 21:43

If you don't fancy cat poo in your garden, why would you want tiger poo there? Surely it's just HUGE cat poo .

bananalover · 27/07/2010 21:57

If you know who owns these cats. Collect the poo, take it to the owner's house, and post it through letter box. It got to me so much, I did just this. Strangely enough, I haven't seen this particular cat in ages!

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/07/2010 22:19

Even though its unpleasant you cannot catch diseases, unless they have worms.

thefirstmrsDeVere · 27/07/2010 22:25

I have two small barky dogs. They dont keep the cats away. Nothing does.

I have a gravely garden and the local cats think of it as one hooooge litter tray.

Nice.

I pick up once/twice a day.

Tiredmumno1 · 27/07/2010 23:44

I still dont see the point in having a load of cats if you are hardly ever in, and all they do is roam.

Jeyes fluid is only poisonous to cats if they eat it - which they won't!

catwhiskers10 · 29/07/2010 08:13

I have the same problem in my front garden, it was driving me mad then i found out it was my own cat that was doing it so there wasnt much I could say!!
I had tried the repellant sprays/granules but they didnt work, i have read about plants that repel cats but I cant remember the name, you could maybe google it. Orange peel is meant to be effective and I have heard that those electronic cat scarers are very effective but they can be expensive.
Dont even think of getting gravel or stones as my cat is quite happy to poo among these as well and its a lot harder to lift out of stones than soil!!

Jasonthunderpants · 29/07/2010 11:42

I know somebody who had trouble with a neighbours cat and he caught it one day and put it in a box and dropped it off many miles away in a little village.

edam · 29/07/2010 11:48

Jason - that is cruel and probably a criminal offence. Shouldn't be something you hold up as a suggestion.

newpup · 29/07/2010 12:36

Jason that is cruel and shameful. Cats can be a pain but doing that to someones pet is wicked.

maighdlin · 29/07/2010 13:21

i hate my neighbours cats!!! they drive me and my dog insane. i find a water pistol works for a few days but i will have to try the lemon thing.

my next door neighbour has two cats are they are indoorsy cats and find nothing wrong with climbing in through my windows. my dog went after one in the living room and went out the window after it and i have to keep my windows open. i have become obsessed with them lately and trying to get them to poop in their own gardens.

5Foot5 · 29/07/2010 13:40

barnsleycatie I have heard that about the bottles too, I think the way the light shines on it is supposed to freak them out. Apparently though you have to keep moving them around (the bottles not the cats)

Jason When I lived at home was once had a problem with a neighbours cat that kept getting in the dustbin and dragging things out. A colleague of my Dad's said that he had had something similar so one day he managed to trap the cat in the bin and give it a good shake, which scared it off.

My Dad was determined to try this. One night I spotted the cat's tail sticking out from the bin so I sneaked up behind it, pushed it in and sat on the lid. Trouble was I then had to sit on the lid to keep the cat in and couldn't go get my Dad. I tried shouting but he was as deaf as a post and didn't hear me so I gave up after about 10 minutes. Even so the cat was so thoroughly upset at being kept in the bin for that lengt of time that it streaked away and never, ever came back.

Don't know if that helps anyone.

Jasonthunderpants · 29/07/2010 13:55

It was not me who catnapped the cat and I know it is a rotten thing to do
