to let my Daughter, 12, use chatroulette?

My Ex has just rung me and said that he's fuming that I let my daughter, who is 12, use Chat Roulette.

I don't have a problem with it - she's careful on the internet, and says all her friends use it. I don't want to be the one mean mum who says no, so, as long as she's not on for more than an hour a day, I don't have a problem.

AIBU?

This sounds to me like one of the w*nking blokes on chatroulette trying to get a bunch of hot mums into the website.

It also seems to me he's succeeded.

Glitterandglue · 25/07/2010 22:34

She may well be 'careful on the internet' [which I would debate, anyway] as I am careful crossing a road, but quite frankly it's all the idiots out there who do the damage.

Your 12 year old is not mature enough to make the decisions on what is and what isn't appropriate for her to be accessing online. Some are, yours as evident from this is not. Get parental controls in place, or sit there with her when she's online.

Seriously, internet rule #1 is 'check out what your kids are doing' rather than use what their mates do as a yardstick.

Go home you silly troll, and do something worthwhile

tuggy · 26/07/2010 17:40

I hope this is a joke YADBU

HowsTheSerenity · 26/07/2010 17:47

Good lord. I am 30 and don't use it. It is full of naked men having a wank. But if that is what you want your daughter to see then good on you!!

prozacfairy · 26/07/2010 17:51

You're having a bubble aren't you?! You'd let a kid of 12 use a site you haven't even looked at?

Everyone else is probably right. Wind up.

coventgarden · 26/07/2010 17:52

YABU for the simple reason that you are doing it because her friends are, influenced by kids and because it isn't meant for a child.

2blessed2bstressed · 26/07/2010 18:38

YABU it's full of pervs

MathsMadMummy · 26/07/2010 18:43

hope this was a wind up.

if not, then hopefully OP has learned that just because DD's friends are doing something does not make it okay!

splashy · 26/07/2010 18:44

i cant believe this is actually real... surely its just been posted to cause controversy??

of course this is wrong.

i have a friend who used it and saw someone who hanged themselves on it. so even apart from naked men, there are a lot of other dangers.

i wouldnt go on it and im 22
