I have four children, all under 7. From the first one being born I was a registered child minder and after the last one was born I wanted to go back to it. There is a huge need for quality child care in my area. Ofsted have refused to register me this time around over a planning technicality. The same technicality existed the last time they registered me at the same address yet it posed no problem then. Now, I am really struggling to find child care and so have no way of keeping up the job I just got .. and the children all want me at home anyway! Am I being un reasonable to want to do a job that works around my family and that I love ie child minding ...instead of just sitting back and living on benefits?

Not at all.

Is the planning thing not something that is sortable?

Yeah but I have nooooo idea how to do it. I have tried God Knows but it loks like I have to pay about four hundred pounds plus whatever an architect would charge to draw some plans !! I have four children and a hubby who is recovering from being off work porly so that is unfortunately soooo not going to happen GRR ! x

So what exactly is it that they want you to change?

Perhaps you could put that dilemma in the childminding section - they might have some suggestions or experience they could share with you.

I work in planning and hope I can offer some advice, it does depend on how many children you will be looking after, generally, unless you are changing the use fo your home to a nursery then you dont need planning permission (which is £335 for a change of use) if yo can provide more info such as how many children/how long for I would be happy to help you.
