to wonder why no-one has started a thread taking the piss out of the PlayDate Card advert?

Obviously the company did absolutely no demographic research as MN as a whole hate the term playdate and would rather be seen with a scrumpled-up Gregg's receipt in their handbags than a playdate card.

There have been a couple - either they've been deleted or they've rolled over to the next page...?

Generally considered either wanky or naff - I was a dissenting voice if distributed to all the children in a school then would be a handy way of noting (for other parents, not the school!!) all alleriges, food intolerances, contact details etc - NOT for 'Sarah only likes fish fingers' and 'Jack will only play football and eat Pizza'!

I saw the comp and did think what a wanky ponctastic pile o shite.

but i keep getting told off so didn't post about it

The whole thing makes me want to heave. But I think it's a covert way of just advertising a card printing company. Mis-judged, I feel.

Vermdum · 25/07/2010 01:17

All it needed was for people to google/talk about the company. Awareness = Value. Value = Ease of raiseing finances through shareholders and so on.

This proves that it has worked.

SolidGoldBrass · 25/07/2010 01:53

I looked at that advert and vaguely thought, hmm, possibly useful. But then I have struggled a lot bit to work out how to broach the whole subject with the other mums at school and would find something like that a bit handy as a way of just being able to give it to peope - 'Here, my DS would like to socialise with yours some time, here's our phone number...'

tokyonambu · 26/07/2010 09:04

But you can get business cards, with your name and phone number and maybe email address on, for about £5 per hundred, or if you want to show your taste in nice paper, £10 per hundred. It's about three times more to get 500 (most of the cost is in the setup, which is reflected in the prices for larger quantities being much cheaper per unit). How much were those playdate cards? £9 for 25?

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/07/2010 11:03

There have been threads, laughing muchly

I just think there is nothing on them that you can't open your mouth and say! Would anyone really let their child go to someone's house without communicating with them? Without having a chat? Why would you need a card? Use your gob.

tokyonambu · 26/07/2010 11:24

I use a card occasionally if I need to give someone my phone number. It saves scrabbling around for a pencil or a phone to note it down on. Mostly I use it when I bump into people I haven't seen in twenty years in the supermarket (as has happened twice in the past month).
