to be annoyed that ever time I try to contribute something I'm berated!

People ask for opinions, to which everyone will have different views which they are completely entitled to. Yet everytime I contribute my opinion, which I'm sure are going to be wrong/right. People become unnecessarily arsey with me.

WTF - MN for discussions, not full blown arguments? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?! Surely you can just give someone a reasonable answer, without having to bold names, and point fingers.

I really like this site, and it amuses me when I'm home alone with my son! But I'm considering closing down my user name, and finding something else to do.

AIBU or does anyone else feel like this?

Ha!! I've been called PFB this week by someone with one dc when I've got 4 And I'm nowhere near precious!loon!

Nattynar · 24/07/2010 23:45

I think it's when people become personal!

Uncalled for in all situations I think.

natty its discursive forum with strangers, not likely to meet any of them on a street as it is anonymous.not your best pal or family.do expect a bit banter.

Nattynar · 24/07/2010 23:49

Love a bit of banter, you should hear me with stepfather.

I did have a little read of the getting started section, and MN does say to treat others with respect, as you would if you met then in person.

There are plenty on here who didn't read that!

Sometimes its very useful, There are times you can't say things in RL because you will see that person every day and it would end up being awkward. On here you can tell them which can be for the best, sometimes because they feel free to speak their minds people go ott and become hurtful. The rough with the smooth.

While I've been typing this SM has probably replied much better and in one line, but we are all different

faeriefruitcake · 24/07/2010 23:50

AIBU thread

Approach with caution, wearing big thick cotton pants like Granny used to wear, flame proof passion killers. Oven gloves could also be usful and some Savlon.

Light fuse, stand back and watch the fireworks go off.

As for royalty, come the glorious revolution, heads on spikes - heads on spikes.

scottishmummy · 24/07/2010 23:51

Confused by Beer's last post. Maybe she had MN grudge with me. Not sure.

Still quite new to this so don't know all acronyms.

natty, youre over thinking it all,its anonymous banter.words on a screen

Nattynar · 25/07/2010 00:14

Ok SM. Promise, will grow thicker skin.

Well looks like this thread has fizzled out. Wonder what else is out there worth looking at.

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/07/2010 00:17

Natty - is it possible that on occasion you are missing the point and people are just joshing with you?

(ScottishMummy has been shockingly rude to me on another thread tonight but I know she loves me to bits really don't you hen? xx)

There is a lot of banter on here and people can be forthright. If someone is out and out rude with no good reason to a fellow poster, you usually see lots of others leaping up to her defence.

I think possibly you are being over-sensitive. Stick with it and I am sure you will get used to Mumsnet's funny ol' ways.

scottishmummy · 25/07/2010 00:21

hen you can swig ma ginger nae hard feelings

Nattynar · 25/07/2010 00:23

Thanks, I will stick with it then.

I will keep posting then, and take it on the chin.

chipmonkey · 25/07/2010 01:04

Listen to scottishmummy. She is the MN oracle. Better than royalty!

Vermdum · 25/07/2010 01:12

Im guessing humans were not made for fourms: any person can challange any view, with no worry of being physically harmed for it. That means any and all brillient(and demented) ideas can be shared and explored, expressed....

Yeah, you will get alot of people spreading shit. Dont let it get you down!

scottishmummy · 25/07/2010 01:48

we have opposable thumbs.we are great at forums.bring it on

chipmonkey · 25/07/2010 09:25

I never use my thumbs when typing though!

janajos · 25/07/2010 09:36

Actually, what irritates me is that every time I make a comment, whatever it is, that seems to be the end of the thread. I'm beginning to take it personally!!!
