to think that keeping the traffic flowing is not always the most important thing?

Driving home tonight I came up to a roundabout on a dual carriageway. As I got close to the roundabout a man ran across the opposite carriageway - he looked unsteady and his face was grey. He ran beind my car as I waiting to pull away and then collapsed. There was no-one there when I saw him so I put my hazard lights on and got out to help him.I was thinking that maybe he should stay put in case moving him did damage so my car might help protect him from the traffic but by the time I got out some people had picked him up and moved him - I just helped to carry his shopping to the pavement. Someone called the ambulance. I waited just long enough to see that they didn't want me to stay and went back to my car. Which was long enough for some driver to start yelling at my DD through the passender window 'to move your effing car! You can't park the effing thing there!'

DD was upset - first all seeing the man fall and being carried bleeding to the pavement and then being shouted at for no reason.

All the drivers coming past could see the poor man. Lots of them called out to see if they should call for an ambulance. So, the circumstances being what they were, is it really unreasonable to expect drivers to put up with some minor inconvenience without abusing an 11yr old girl?

Some people really don't think at all. There are some selfish idiots around. I recall at the scene of an accident once where a lady had been hit by a lorry in the town centre and a business owner moaned that she was affecting his business by blocking the street....twat.

coventgarden · 23/07/2010 19:21

I drove to town this afternoon and pretty much everyone was driving like an idiot.

I'd like to know how he was. Poor guy looked so ill and was bleeding heavily. He just kept saying 'I'm alright love, I'm alright'

It doesn't matter how justified you think you are, shouting and swearing at a child will always make you a twat in my book! URNBU!

JaneS · 23/07/2010 19:39

They were being twats, you were right. You had your hazards lights on ffs!

OrmRenewed · 24/07/2010 11:07

Thanks.

I just wish I could find out how he was. Was a nasty wound on his head - I think he must have just hit it when he fell but it looked worse than it should from just hitting the ground.

some people ar ejust twats.
i once took dd bleeding profusely from her face, into a gp surgery as i thought it would be faster to be seen by nurse there than waiting for ambulance (no way i could drive her there myself) the receptionist was lovely and put me at the front of the queue, and this woman went up and complained to the receptionist that she had been first and had an appointment. the fact that dd was bleeding as much as she was made no difference to this woman. as far as she was concerned, she was the only person of any importance in the world

Acekicker · 24/07/2010 11:31

Probably the same twunt who when my house was on fire, decided to shout abuse at us all as the fire engines were blocking the road

You're definitely NOT being unreasonable!

That's just a member of the great un-washed. Did you have any soap in the car? That makes them nervous.

Or, possibly in a hurry with a kebab leaking grease onto the front seat.

Oh Orm, you did a great thing. Some people are just so caught up in their preconceptions (that they hate everyone else on the road and everyone else but them is a crap driver ) that they can't see what's actually happening in front of their eyes that contradicts all of their comfortable prejudices.

OrmRenewed · 24/07/2010 19:26

Thanks.

She was rather 'glamourous' blonde woman. I don't think she ate kebabs and I'm sure she was a good friend to soap

Stupid woman. some people just think that getting into their car gives them permission to act like absolute nob-heads. You did a very kind thing for that man.
