To be feel a little bit annoyed when they ask me if I want milk with my Americano?

Um, obviously not, hence why I've specified an "Americano". I know whose fault it is - people asking for one and then asking for "a bit of milk" as well

i cannot bring self to say americano
black cofffee

ravenAK · 22/07/2010 20:13

I'm with ReasonableDoubt.

I want a medium/strong coffee & to put my own cold milk in it.

(Anything frothy or creamy...yeeeuuuurgh.)

If I'm in my local coffee shop that means ordering Americano & asking for cold milk on the side.

The other options are Espresso or various forms of sickly froth.

OrmRenewed · 22/07/2010 20:14

Well exactly alaska. FFS it's COFFEE! I make good coffee and I call it...coffee.

OgreRebel · 22/07/2010 20:19

Get a thermos. Seriously. If you can do it better, don't pay ridiculous prices to have it grande or whatever they call it. It all started when they started with the 'barista in training' crap embroidered across their hunched backs.

Give 'em pinnies and teach 'em how to brew tea.

ummwhatnext · 22/07/2010 20:22

May your worries always be as small OP.. {grin}

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/07/2010 20:24

Yes, but I refuse to play along with all these ridiculous made up names and I will NOT ask for a flat white. No I will NOT.

I find I am almost always disappointed by coffee. Unless I am at Monmouths in Borough Market. Or Spain. Or Italy.

[pretentious emoticon].

I sometimes do that because I want a white coffee, and I don't want a latte, or a black americano.

In about 1988 you could ask for a white coffee, but if you asked for a 'white coffee' now, you'd probably get a latte, and that is not the same.

thisisyesterday · 22/07/2010 20:29

the problem is frequenting shit coffee shops where they're pretending to be italian

MsHighwater · 22/07/2010 20:29

But if I only want a little milk in my coffee, that means getting a black coffee and asking for a little cold milk on the side so that I can add just the right amount for me. I don't expect to be asked if I want it - I will ask for it so as far as that goes, YANBU.

thisisyesterday · 22/07/2010 20:30

i hate when you ask for a white coffee and they give you filter coffee instead

what's that all about?

OgreRebel · 22/07/2010 20:30

Not only a latte but in a stupid glass with an unusable handle and a wood shaving poncy biscuit flung nonchalantly on your useless saucer.

OrmRenewed · 22/07/2010 20:30

How do you put cold milk 'on the side'?

MsHighwater · 22/07/2010 20:37

Well, I mean that I want a little jug, beside my cup/mug, containing some cold milk. "on the side" is just a figure of speech.

bran · 22/07/2010 20:45

I always ask for a black americano, it never occurred to me not to specify. Even when I specify 'black' I still do a quick check before I leave (or watch them making it) to make sure they haven't added milk.

I disagree that coffee is not hot enough here, I find it undrinkably hot. If it's in a take-away cup it never cools either, I usually end up pouring out some coffee and adding cold water.

MrsJohnDeere · 22/07/2010 20:46

I have milk in my Americano. I want strong coffee with a hint of cold milk. Lattes, cappucinos etc are vile milky drinks.

MrsJamin · 22/07/2010 21:02

Flat Whites are the best option if Espresso is too strong without milk. I have one of the best independent coffee shops in the country just round the corner from me in Reading, it has spoilt me for Starbucks Nero Costa rubbish. I am turning into a total coffee snob.

thisisyesterday · 22/07/2010 21:06

i wish we had a decent coffee shop
our town centre has THREE costas, plus one in the slightly out of town Tesco.
and we have coffee republic which sells some of the worst coffee i've ever tasted

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/07/2010 21:19

If I could just have one of these every day I would be a happy bibbity.

said · 22/07/2010 21:22

I think I'm going to revert to Black Coffee now - easier all round. Or just a double espresson. No doubt, I'll get asked if I want milk in that soon

OP posts:
PosyPetrovaPauline · 22/07/2010 21:26

i like an espresso ( preferably double) with a jug of hot water and drop of cold milk

I can start with it just 'off neat' and add water as needed

heaven

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/07/2010 21:28

Am I going mad?

Are there two identical threads here??

PosyPetrovaPauline · 22/07/2010 21:31

mrsjohndeere yes they are vile - warm devils semen

said · 22/07/2010 21:36

Yes, 2 threads - my (computer's) fault. Sorry But one is full of light-hearted people (those who agree with me ) and one has some very, very angry people. They need to stop drinking milk, clearly

PosyPetrovaPauline · 22/07/2010 21:39

bibbity LOVELY!!

oddly I find pizza express coffee to be drinkable
