To 'borrow' toilet roll from an old folks home

A few sundays ago we where getting low on toilet paper. We get the shopping delivered on a Weds aft. Normally I would use newspaper untill it arrived but I was hosting the coffee morning on Weds and didnt want newspaper in the loo (what would my coffee morning ladies think?)
I didnt want to buy some from Dick Turpins down the road as he is expensive. How expensive I hear you cry, well let me tell you. His packets of dried herbs are 50% more expensive than a shop 3 miles away 99p compared to 66p and I only needed a roll to tide me over untill Weds aft.
So I had a plan
On monday aft we go to the surestart group in the community center attached to old folks flats and I borrowed a roll from them, they normaly smell of wee anyway and wouldnt miss one roll.
Anyway IANBU just carefull with money
DW says I am tight but I dont like spending money unnecessary
Just because I used to take toilet paper from work before I met her, she thinks I am going back to my bad habbits

look everybody I have always had a low paid job and suplementing my income was a necessary part of life and what is the difference between using toilet paper when out and taking it home to use as and when?

this is a wind up

coraltoes · 22/07/2010 11:09

although i'd use the travel supplement...much larger sheets than the main bit of paper

Shodan · 22/07/2010 11:33

Tsk, Jason.

You are a novice tightwad economiser, I can see.

Have you no garden? There is FREE bum wipe readily available- grass, leaves, even twigs for those 'awkward' bits. If no garden, collect the aforementioned items whilst out on a bracing walk.

And no need to shell out for a bidet spray, either, if you have a water butt (pardon the pun). Simply attach a shower hose to the tap and off you go.

stubbornhubby · 22/07/2010 11:43

just one sheet for a poo, Jason?

what about the strips-of-three needed each side to line the toilet seat before you sit on it? They count as well you know.

(Or do keep them aside and reuse them? In special pot perhasp, His n Her's)

Jason, back away from the newspaper, the ones that are absorbent enough (The Mirror) are also the ones which deposit most ink. So you've got the newsprint bum/wet bum dilemma.

You could go for a sponge on the end of a stick (ancient Roman style), or just be completely natural and use nothing. You said you sometimes smell of wee, why not add poo into the mix for a bit of variety?

Citrus81 · 22/07/2010 11:46

lol @ "they smell of wee anyway"

SwansEatQuince · 22/07/2010 13:05

There you go, Jason free wipes for life.

sapphireblue · 22/07/2010 13:14

Jason I want to have your babies (just as soon as I've recovered from the birth of the last one)

sapphireblue · 22/07/2010 13:16

swans I opened that thinking it might be stinging nettles.........disappointed now

Jasonthunderpants · 22/07/2010 13:25

I prefere the finer things in life and wiping my bum on plant life is in the top 10

Stubbornhubby I have no need to put toilet paper on the seat as I tend to use the disabled toilets in the shopping centre if I am in town because they are nice and clean
