www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1296361/Twins-prove-baby-survive-23-weeks.html

This article states that the these twins are the youngest to survive in the UK and that the previous record was 24 weeks. WIBU to email them and tell them that my twins were both born at 23 weeks and are still alive and doing well?

A slight co-incidence is that we are from the same town, babies born in same hospital, and transferred to same hospital 60 miles away. I hope they continue to do as well as my twins did.

Im sure there must be some sort of queue/ticket system...

DuncanDisorderly · 22/07/2010 11:00

Thanks everyone

I had an email from someone at the Mirror this morning who want to phone and interview us for tomorrow's paper. Don't think we will, but it's quite exciting.

Oooh, and they are offering £500. I am slightly more tempted now.

Go for it! I can imagine you being such an encouragement to other parents... and you can keep a clipping for when Joe and Harry can read

DuncanDisorderly · 22/07/2010 12:27

they raised their offer to £1000 but I worry about looking bad in the press so I don't think it's a good idea.

Crikey, I'd go for it, you come across as a lovely family in your blog!

(am shallow about money )

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 22/07/2010 12:39

Go for it, they won't make you look bad. Think of all the things you can spend 1k on.

pumperspumpkin · 22/07/2010 12:58

Oh wow - my daughter was born at 33 weeks and it was such a shock, and yet I feel ashamed of myself for finding it such a shock when I read the stories of people like you.

They are both really, really cute by the way!

pumperspumpkin · 22/07/2010 13:01

And go for it (unless you mean "looking bad" as in "unflattering photo"). I don't see how you can come out of this with anything other than people thinking what a nice family you are and thank you to all the medical staff. It's a warm cozy glow kind of story really.

Nancy66 · 22/07/2010 13:10

Ask for the copy to be read back to you - they'll probably go for that.

Word of warning though - the payment will be 'upon publication' ie, if they don't use it then you don't get paid.

DuncanDisorderly · 22/07/2010 13:16

We said no. I worry I will look bad and people will think I am odd because I have had surrogate babies before and had my first child at 14. You know what newspapers are like....they find out something slightly out of the ordinary and make a normal person look like a freak.

Jammyrella · 22/07/2010 13:21

I had been about to post to say do the story, take the money and give half/all/some of it to the hospital. But I just saw your last post and appreciate you might not want the publicity if you fear they will drag up stuff you'd rather not have out in public.

Jammyrella · 22/07/2010 13:22

Oh sorry, meant to say congratualtions on your amazing twins! My DD was 35 weeks, that was quite early enough for me!

JaneS · 22/07/2010 13:25

Well, I think having had surrogate babies makes you sound lovely! But of course you shouldn't do it if you don't feel comfortable with it, I understand that.

hildathebuilder · 22/07/2010 13:44

As you may remember my 29 weeker had the same due date as your twins. I was reading the end of your blog about the twins development and just wanted to say that I know a couple of others babies who were born at term on 21 and 26 may respectively but don't do much other than gaze - certainly no rolling, reaching etc. my ds has started to roll but everyone including me is really surprised by him doing so. Smiling on the other hand is still hit and mainly miss!

For what its worth I would not have done the mirror article either

coraltoes · 22/07/2010 14:31

just wanted to say i've been on yourblog and your boys look amazing. What a credit to you and the hard work of the NHS! such beautiful treasures. I am so pleased to read they are progressing well.

Good decision on the press story btw- i wouldn't trust a red top as far as i could fling one. Plus people sometimes write such horrid comments on the online articles, i'd hate something so sweet as your story to be compromised by idiots.

all the best to your lovely family!
