To feel its a little insensitive to make children leave the playgroup who are not invited to the party.

I was at playgroup in the village hall with all the usual children, the playgroup runs until 3.15 but today they had a children's party booked to start at 3pm.

The child who's party it was attends the small preschool my children go to. About half the children at play group (8 or so children) were invited to the party others arrived at 3pm.

During the playgroup things for the party were being set up. At 3pm the children not invited to the party had to leave, leaving friends, from preschool, they were playing with who stayed for the party.

AIBU to think this was a little insensitive? I understand that you can't invite everyone but this, however unintentionally, rubbed it in the noses of the children not invited.

And yes, mine were not invited and had to leave.

YANBU it should have been booked for later - if the hall was being used later then they should have chosen another time / venue.

Early pick up could cause massive hassle to working parents and those with carefully planned school run times

I think maybe the mum just didn't think about it, although she knew the playgroup would be going on. I overheard some other mums talking about it (whos DCs were invited) and they felt very uncomfortable about it. I'm sure she didn't mean to upset the other children.

YANBU. If playgroup finishes at 3:15 then it is unreasonable of whomever took the booking to book from 3pm.

DetectivePotato · 21/07/2010 20:38

YANBU. They shouldn't have been allowed to book a hall that is already in use. They should have had to book it for 3.30.

PaintingTheFence · 21/07/2010 21:42

YANBU. Agree with DetectivePotato that they should have booked it for 3.30.

YANBU....are you going to complain? I would!

hanaka88 · 21/07/2010 21:51

would not do this to children at all...its really unkind

Avantia · 21/07/2010 21:59

YANBU -

security of the setting and children - who was setting up , were external doors being left open ?

funding ? - being asked to leave before your session is up and you child is funded .

Management need a kick up the arse .

TiggyD · 21/07/2010 22:17

They should have booked it for 4!

You can't let children see you getting ready for a party then throw them out!

Ridiculous.
