Me and dh have never had a full weeks holiday together without the dc's.
We've had weekend breaks, and 4 days away in Italy a couple of years ago, but Ive just had some money that I didnt expect and want to spend it on something we would never normally do, or be able to afford.

We will of course have our usual 2 week family holiday in the summer, plus trips as usual with the kids.

dh thinks its a bit weird to want to go without them but I just think a whole week being able to lie by the pool, with nothing else to do, would be bliss. Imagine not having to get up for a week

So AIBU and the worst parent in the world?

(oh and dc's will be with grandparents)

I am going away on my own for 10 days later this year, leaving ds with dh. My mum is desperately trying to make me feel guilty about it, but I gently reminded her that we regularly got left with our grandparents while she and my dad went away on holiday- short memory, eh mother!
Am going to miss them both so much but I refuse to feel guilty. It's 10 days out of ds life and I get to go and do something I have always wanted to do and may never get the chance to do again.
They will fly out to meet me after my adventure and we've another 2 weeks alltogether after that.

Go go go!

DP and I had a week away earlier this year to Aruba, and it was the greatest week ever! You appreciate the holiday so much more than you ever appreciated holidays before DCs. It was bloody hard to get back into mummy mode when we got back though! We are also going away for three days with 10 adult friends for my birthday in 3 weeks, and i cant wait!

I missed DD so much, and did call every day (even though she's only 19 months old and so cant really speak to me!) but had such a great time. You also don't get the 'coming home from holiday blues' as much, because you look forward to coming back and giving them a cuddle

me and dp are off to sicily for a week in september and the kids are staying at my parents house for the week. I. CANNOT. WAIT. although I know we will miss them like mad so YANBU, esp as you are having a family holiday as well.

we often go away for weekends without the kids, i think its very important to have time together just as a couple. and if they are being looked after by people that love them and where they are happy then I dont think it will do the kids any harm at all.

also, i remember as a kid me and my brother being packed off to grandparents regularly so my parents could go on holiday. i loved it - gp's spoilt us rotten plus they had a swimming pool so winner all round really

DO IT! YANBU!

Me and my DH go away every year for a week without the DCs. We are very lucky that they have very nice Grandparents that have them for the week we are away.

It is a chance to chill out, and be 'us' again. As soon as I know that they are ok, and not missing us in the slightest I relax and make the most of my holiday by reading loads of books, drinking and getting a full nights slepp (which is a rarity!)

Don't feel guilty - of course you will miss your DC's - but a break sometimes does you all the world of good.

Will this be a record breaking 100% YANBU for MN...?

YANBU and too.

mosschops30 · 20/07/2010 16:14

wow thanks for all your fab replies and for making me feel totally normal

I think it will be amazing, read one review that says they do Cava with breakfast and I thought 'oooh imagine drinking at breakfast' and not caring if i slept it off in the sun all day

Wanna get it booked now!
(and yes imagine how famous I could be for a unanimous AIBU thread)

Why do you even bother to have kids if you don't want to spend time with them? YABU.

TrillianAstra · 20/07/2010 16:17

Haha, kidding!

Of course YANBU!

mosschops30 · 20/07/2010 16:18

I might if I had a nanny to look after them!

But sadly I haven't!

Am going to Venice in Nov for weekend, sis is looking after them, only cos I had her DD for a week.
