...to think that a funeral is the WORST PLACE EVER for a 'spiritualist' to predict the death of a family member?

My wee Gran is physically disabled and has recently become a lot more infirm as she's had a couple of falls which have frightened her and so my sister acts as her carer now.

My StepDad's sister (who was the exact same age as my Gran is) died last week and her funeral was today. My sister and I left the wake for an hour to go and visit my Gran and when we got back my Mum told me that her sister in law - a self-confessed spiritualist - had told her she saw my Gran having three months.

Now, I don't believe in spiritualism although my Mum does but EVEN SO. Am I being unreasonable to be completely raging that my Mum who has spent the last few weeks caring for her sister in law and arranging her funeral is now panicking that her Mum is on the cusp of expiring?!

Use them.

OP I think this is nastily cruel. Someone needs to tell this beatly woman where to shove her nonsensical predictions.

How can anyone believe in this sort of shite?

YANBU

Is she part of a spiritulaist church? Pretty sure they don't look fondly on 'predictions' of death.

What a nasty cow. Shame your mother won't just ignore her.

Fizzywinelover · 20/07/2010 11:05

What gagmama said.

GavisconGirl · 20/07/2010 11:16

Um, am I getting this right? Debs has just posted to say that her daughter died 3 years ago and you are taking the piss out of her intelligence and grammar?

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/07/2010 12:47

I didn't even read it Gaviscon - i made no damn sense.

Heebiejeebie · 20/07/2010 13:16

Debs, sorry to hear that you lost your daughter. Getorfmoiland, if you're today's English teacher, prob best to check your own posts for typos.

rupert22 · 20/07/2010 14:08

Debs so sorry about your little girl x

Easywriter · 20/07/2010 14:22

Well, you can see how it panned out for the LIbyan bomber, I bet you Gran's got plenty more time left!

P.S. Sorry, haven't read the thread beyond OP.

rupert22 · 20/07/2010 14:25

Yes and the Libyan bombers death was not predicted by shoddy psychics but scientific men of medicine

AnyFuleKno · 20/07/2010 23:02

Right, you're not on religion and spirituality here people, you're on AIBU so I feel I can say with impunity:

PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY ARE PSYCHICS ARE EITHER SERIOUSLY DELUDED OR KNOWINGLY CONNING YOU.

The ones who seem most accurate are usually the latter.

I know that is going to stick in some people's craws, but please do me this one favour; take 10 minutes to look up 'cold reading' on a sceptic website. Next time you speak to a psychic, or read a horoscope, you will be able to see clearly how this person gives the impression of psychic powers while either making guesses, broad statements which would fit many people or in most cases, simply getting you the client to work hard to make information fit or give them all the information they need.
