Op:

Hi, DD due in three months and we can't decide between Beth and Hannah for her name. Which do you prefer?

Response: They're okay. But I prefer Jessica or Lucy.

Am I missing something here?????

If someone on the thread assumes Ted is going to be short for Theodore, then this will probably happen IRL too, so isn't it worth mentioning if there are likely to be chipmunk jokes?

Lamplighter.. who says kids go to a 'normal' school.

My kids have weird names.. and are home schooled... in Southern California... where EVERYONE has a weird name

I would wear navy with pearl accessories.

lamplighter - I so agree.

Dh and I decided we would go completely the other way, and name dd the most ordinary name we could think of, on the principle that she would be forced to be interesting under her own steam, rather than turning into a shrinking violet as a result of a childhood spent cowering under the burden of an "interesting" name.

Must admit, we were tempted to spell it "keithe " but we stuck to our guns. Weirdly, she's the only one in the school.

What also amazes me is when someone comes on with a really, really unusual name and a couple of people come back with 'oooh yes, we had sparklynappy on our shortlist for dd. I just love that name'.

I sometimes think I'm living in a parallel universe .

baby name threads are great

especially tbh when people get really riled and testy about it...

I like them

ZZZenAgain · 20/07/2010 10:46

I like alternative name offers. Definitely belong on all baby name threads.

I am to scared to ever post on baby name threads again! In my former guise 9on -whispers- another site) someone had posted my name on their thread and wanted to know what it was like to live with - so I went along the lines of its alright, I like it, sticks in peoples heads kinda thing.

My name is not terribly unusual now - was when I was growing up though.

The poster then said did having an unusual name affect you naming your dc's?

I replied not really as dh named both ds and dd - and was happy to let him do so.

I then was informed that I was the victim of spousal abuse and that my dh was controlling me and my body by naming my child???/!!!!
Literally out of no where. I tell you, it's like a bear bit in those threads .

I now read for entertainment only - it's safer.
