discombobulated?
I didn't know what it meant. I had to look it up.
Now it is my new word of the day. I am going to use it all the time.

needmoretime · 17/07/2010 10:45

TechLovingDad · 17/07/2010 10:47

Great words like this always make me think of Black Adder the Third and Doctor Johnson's dictionary.

Johnson "I have every word in the english language in here".

BlackAdder "May I congratulate with you many pericombobulations. Have a sausage".

Johnson "Sausage!!!! Damn your eyes".

Hehe.

purepurple · 17/07/2010 12:52

Yes, TLDad, it is very much a Black adder word. I can just hear Rowan Atkinson saying it now.

My dh uses it all the time and it always makes me piss myself for some reason. Think it is the Blackadder connection!

proudnsad · 17/07/2010 16:11

Piss myself with laughter that is, not just piss myself. Just clearing that up. (Not the piss, the confusion.)

nickelbabe · 17/07/2010 16:15

i always thought it was made up!
I used it a few times when it appeared on Blackadder, but it wasn't until last year I decided to look it up, and found that it was a real word. i was so happy

MrsC2010 · 17/07/2010 16:22

Great word, I try to use it whenever possible!

LittleMissHissyFit · 17/07/2010 17:40

discombobulated

RunawayWife · 17/07/2010 17:46

Love this word.

infin · 17/07/2010 18:15

Along with 'imbroglio', 'discombobulated' is one I try to use as often as possible; so satisfying to roll your tongue around words like these!!

thefirstmrsDeVere · 17/07/2010 18:44

I used it on my facebook status only last week.

I now feel awfully clever.

Not bad for a boarderline chav who cant spell

LittleSilver · 17/07/2010 18:45

Awful word. Used by those trying to impress (yawn) without actually knowing what it means.

susitwoshoes · 17/07/2010 18:50

nearly as good as antidisestablishmentarianism, though easier to use on an everyday basis

thefirstmrsDeVere · 17/07/2010 18:57

I thought it meant confused, in a bit of a fog.

I had a nap in the morning, wasnt used to it, woke up and felt discombulated all afternoon.

Is that not right then?

What does it mean?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 17/07/2010 18:59

Not as good as pergola.

mistressploppy · 17/07/2010 19:03

Did someone say Blackadder?

I would also like to add floccinaucinihilipilification. It means to estimate that something is worth nothing. Great word, but levering it into a sentence is pretty hard

nickelbabe · 20/07/2010 11:59

thefirstmrsDeVere - the verb is basically to throw someone into confusion, so i think that your sentence does make sense.

UnquietDad · 20/07/2010 12:04

I always think of it as a Ken Dodd word, although I'm not sure it is.

asbolutelyfabulous · 20/07/2010 23:58

I love discombobulated. That and defenestrate.

melpomene · 21/07/2010 00:37

DH once threatened dd that she would be discombobulated if she didn't tidy up. The threat had an immediate effect.

runnybottom · 21/07/2010 10:48

I like erudite and esoteric.

discombobulation · 21/07/2010 10:49

It's my word!
