i started a job last year. i did not get on with my immediate supervisor who is bigoted and racist. she ensured i was kept on extended probation.

in the meantime i have been successful in the pursuit of my dream job. i have kept my senior manager appraised of my attempts to secure my new job but she was the one who agreed to keep me on extended probation.

now this is the dilemma. because they have kept me on probation according to my contract i only have to give one weeks notice. this would seriously land them in the shite. i do not have in writing yet my letter of appointment for the new job. when i do, i would like to leave to ensure i get some time at home with my kids over the summer. this would mean not giving masses of notice. though i could quite easily and legitimately give one week because they kept me dangling around on probation despite being there 8 motnhs....

aibu to just to leave with one weeks notice and think tough tits?

My dad worked for 25 years for the same company. He was relocated 7 times - three of those to different countries. Each time he uprooted his family without complaint.

And then when he was 55 they made him redundant.

That story may have no relevance to your situation but I think it is always worth remembering that organisations generally don't give a shit about their staff, there are no morals where they are concerned. So do what you have to. You owe them nothing

Go for the dream job. Dont even look back, 1 weeks notice is more than sufficient.

thanks everyone. there is no question of me not going for it - its taken me 18 months to get through the recruitment process!

ill just have to give as much notice as i can and not worry about it.
