AIBU To wonder if 'celeb' Mum's get paid to say they 'can't' or 'won't' BF to increase sales of formula milk. I can't understand any other reason why 'celebs' would make such a personal time in their life so public.

I'm intrigued how you all seem to assume that lots of celebs don't breastfeed.

How about, you don't know who has and who hasn't breastfed apart from a few examples. And that's because its private and none of your business.

Being a celebrity doesn't mean you give up rights over every part of your life, you know.

Mine didn't Mingg - the Portland seemed to think I was a bit mad for not sending DS to the nursery at night.

But agree... they always brought the baby back for feeding.

Mingg · 16/07/2010 12:49

Really Harimo - I was told that there was a nursery and they baby could be taken there if I couldn't sleep/wanted to take shower etc but "now that he is here we prefer that he stays with you".

Harimo · 16/07/2010 12:52

Nope... totally different.

I stayed in for 5 days with DS (no one at home, and I was having a nice there! ) and on the last night I asked to keep him with me all night... they honestly were a bit shocked... I was like 'well, I don't have one of these fully staffed nurseries at home, so I'm going to have to get on with it, aren't I???'

I remember them wanting to take DS for his first bath and them being amazed that I walked to the nursery with them to see it (this was 1 day post CS). but, I didn't want to miss DS's first 'bath' (yes, yes, PFB! )

I was much more relaxed with DD (also Portland) but she still went to the nursery until she needed feeding.

Mingg · 16/07/2010 13:20

You are right - totally different. I stayed for 4 nights (husband too) and they got us doing everything. He went with the mw to have the baby weight and measured and to help (=watch) put the security tags on. We were also asked to go the nursery for his first bath and then the second bath was given by his dad under the mw's instructions. My husband also changed his first ever nappy

Harimo · 16/07/2010 13:27

AHh... that's lovely.

I wonder if it was something to do with your DH being there?

My DH wasn't. In fact, the CS was scheduled for saturday morning and he flew in from russia on Friday night and flew back out to russia on Monday morning.

maybe they felt sorry for me????!? I think, with hindsight, I probably felt (and looked) a bit lost. I had no visitors, no presents or flowers arrived, no DH...

I don't know, but what I do remember is their kindness and helpfulness and patience (cried like a banshee on day 3!!)...

In fact, many of the MW and nurses who had helped me with DS came to see me when I was in with DD 13 months later.

They gave me the most wonderful start to motherhood ever.

I now want to win the lottery and have baby in portland

deep down, I think I am too posh to push! not saying that everyone is BTW...she hastily adds

Harimo · 16/07/2010 15:07

Well, I am not saying I am too posh to push... but I wanted a CS and was prepared to go private to get the birth and care I wanted.

I didn't and don't regret it at all.

diggingintheribs · 16/07/2010 15:08

re Maggie Gyllenhall - she caused a storm in the US by bf in Central Park - much outrage and shock apparently! So it isn't just our media

Mingg · 16/07/2010 15:12

I for sure am

Harimo, yes they probably treated us differently because my husband was there. I too thought the mws were helpful and kind and if I had another baby I would go back to Portland.

Harimo · 16/07/2010 15:20

LOL at Mingg!!

You get MUCH better rates with the second one - there is a loyalty scheme for subsequent births and also the second CS is medically required (because of the first) so that's cheaper too.

It's a bargain!!! haha!!
