to not open the parcel?

Right,

I ordered a little something for my 5 month old DS from lady 'X' who makes lovely things for babies. Soon after I ordered my item, X's DD developed chicken pox, so she delayed delivering the item. I received it today, but can't bring myself to open it because it is coming from an infected house and I fear DS will catch it. I really don't want to risk anything atm, as we are due to travel abroad next week, to see my family. I don't think I will be opening the parcel anytime soon. AIBU in doing so?

I assume the postmen round your way wear mask and gloves do they OP, to stop them passing on germs to their customers?

and you antibac everything you touch when out in public - supermarket trolley/cash point/door handles?

No?

then theres no telling what germs you may be exposed to even if you do not open the parcel

YABVU and very silly indeed

SirBoobAlot · 15/07/2010 14:36

Wow we're nuts.

LimaCharlie · 15/07/2010 14:39

awwwwwwwww how PFB in a nice way

Monty100 · 15/07/2010 14:40

Lol, save this so you can look back on it in years to come and then post about it on PFB threads.

Hillairyass.

(And agree with everything said above).

MrsMeow · 15/07/2010 14:41

YANBU. Just burn it, seriously. Don't even risk it - the virus is THAT contagious that it will live for 6 weeks in a parcel of lovely baby things.

I caught Ebola once from a Bumbo. It's not even funny.

KERALA1 · 15/07/2010 14:45

This reminds me of that plague village (Eype or something?) in Derbyshire where the plague was sent up from London in parcel of material for the vicars wife. You are very funny

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 15/07/2010 14:45

Christ, don't burn it anywhere near your house though, the smoke may waft towards your house laden with germs.

Throw it in a river/chuck it off a brige/blast it to the moon.

Hang on though, the lady who makes the nice baby things might had had the chicken pox virus on her hand when she packed it and you have touched the box

SloanyPony · 15/07/2010 15:06

Unless its a warm, moist box then I doubt the virus will live...

PandaEis · 15/07/2010 15:12

ok....haz mat suit and dettol spray at the ready then

honestly your DS wont catch the chicken pox from the parcel...really he wont

wahwahwah · 15/07/2010 15:13

My dad was an engineer and he worked on a building site that had to be closed down because the workers dug up a mass grave of smallpox victims. Aparently they all needed to be vaccinated.

So, YABOC (You Are Being Over Cautious) but it's always best to check, it what I always say.

ljgibbs · 15/07/2010 15:25

YABU and stupid. Just think the postman and whoever else has handled it might of sneezed on it and you might get swine flu or lots of other infectious diseases.

oh bless you. I want to give you a big hug.

There is no danger to your child. None at all.

And you lot. Stop being mean or I'll bend you over my knee... Don't think I won't!

wahwahwah · 15/07/2010 16:18

Meaney beanies.
You know who you are.

Who hasn't asked a silly question now and again?

Helena1964 · 15/07/2010 20:11

I agree that alot of people are being mean to chickenlittle, and would be deserving of Hecate's "discipline". What's wrong with just answering her question?
For the record, when I was a health-anxious emetophobic university student, I once left a birthday-card from my father and stepmother unopened for a week, because when I had phoned them several days earlier, they had told me that they were suffering from a severe case of stomach flu. I knew that I was probably overreacting, but couldn't help myself.
Chickenlittle, I'm sure that it's safe to open it, but, as others have said, if it makes you feel better, just don't open the parcel until you return.

IMoveTheStars · 15/07/2010 20:15

This reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where Homer opens a box from China (I think) and gets some kind of virulent flu as soon as he opens the box

fightingthela · 15/07/2010 20:41

Is this a joke? Chickenlittlee worried about the pox in a box
