What do you feel upset about?

Ronaldinhio · 15/07/2010 10:27

It isn't that you are being unreasonable it's that you are reacting to a situation

it is normal to feel out of control if something that you want is taken away from you potentially or a spanner is thrown in the works

if you are overwhelmed speak to a counsellor or a sensible friend about it
act therapists are good as they counsel acceptance and moving forward from there

sometimes we don't get what we want but often there is another option we haven't thought about

i say this drawing heavily from experience
get help as soon as you need it though and don't let this become more than it already is

No YANBU to be so upset with the situation. You've had a crushing disappointment and that's going to hit anyone hard. A chat with the GP would be a good idea though.

Good luck, I hope a placement comes up for you soon.

Tough things happen and feeling down about them is normal and part of life. You do not have to have a history of mental illness or live in unhappy circumstances for a specific problem to trigger an depressive episode. In most cases we eventually find a way through the problem, the fog lifts, and life moves on with us a little older and wiser for the experience. However, if 'being very upset' progresses to feelings of total hopelessness, wanting to self-harm, not wanting to engage socially, inability to eat.... if it's negatively affecting your ability to lead a normal life, in other words.....then you'd be wise to seek medical advice.

Sorry! When I clicked on the link, I thought the 9:45 post was the first one

Thanks Chil. That is useful.

I don't want to see my GP right now because I don't want to go down the route of meds. But I have scared myself with the thoughts of wanting to self harm.

As I said, I don't think I am depressed at the moment, just very upset. I suppose I am worried that these feelings of wanting to hurt myself go beyond just being upset, but I don't really know whether it is 'normal' upset feelings, or something that I need to do something about, ie get help from a Dr etc.
