To think that this ride is somewhat distasteful?

Am I? The Saw ride at Thorpe Park? Bearing in mind that the theme park itself is aimed at under eighteens and that this particular ride is based on a particularly sadistic film?

Should there be age limitations instead of height limitations? Or am I being dreadfully old-fashioned?

there isn't anything about the ride that is particularly frightening (other than teh ride itself but then thats kind of teh point)

children under 18 Shouldnt have seen the film anyway so its just the name of a ride.

SixtyFootDoll · 14/07/2010 22:42

Its just a ride?

Alambil · 14/07/2010 22:43

the adverts are terrifying enough

PatriciaHolm · 14/07/2010 22:44

Thorpe pack is aimed at 18-24 yr olds; Merlin, its owners, already have Chessington and Legoland for the young, so have repositioned TP for the slightly older groups. This ride is part of that repositioning, so no, it's not that inappropriate. It's horrible, and i wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't watch the films either, I'm not target market!

IFancyKevinELevin · 14/07/2010 22:45

I know I sound a bit "nannying" but I think it's quite risky, what if something awful actually happens on it?

We were in a famous Swedish Fun Park when a ride came off its' axis and hit the ground, so I am carrying this with me, forgive me.

Why not "Final Destination 3" - the rollercoaster. That'll probably be next.

I have gotten more squeamish with age though. When I saw SAW as a singleton I thought it was an interesting plot. Now I just find it gory and tedious. And when will that bloke Jigsaw bugger off.....

Rosieeo · 14/07/2010 22:45

If it doesn't include any elements of the film, what's the point of calling it the Saw ride?

OP posts:
Rosieeo · 14/07/2010 22:47

Now the Final Destination idea I can understand, just not Saw! It had nothing to do with rollercoasters!

It's just a ride. Thorpe park is not aimed at under 18's. Yes there is plenty for children to do but there is also a lot for adults.

ravenAK · 14/07/2010 22:50

This would bother me more...

saw stuck.

Hope they've stopped THAT happening, looking forward to a girls' day out at Thorpe Park this summer

Gigantaur · 14/07/2010 22:52

it has the voice from teh film played whilst you wait in the queue, nothing too horrific being said. AS you tip over for the first drop you see some giant saw blades spinning below you. ither than that i cant think of anything about it that relates to the film.

It is shit a brick scarey though

rubbersoul · 14/07/2010 22:52

I thought it was very strange when I saw the advert, and even more so now after clicking the link. That freaky doll thing scares me

IFancyKevinELevin · 14/07/2010 22:54

ravenAK I can feel my blood running to the back of my head already.

I am sooo squeamish now I'm in my late 30's. I went to Vegas years ago and went on all the Stratosphere rides including the X Scream, after they had had computer probs and had to reboot it!

Went on that loopy Irn Bru one in Blackpool with my 14 yo niece this year and I balled my bloody eyes out... had to be led down the stairs by my DB.

ravenAK · 14/07/2010 23:00

Oh I did Alton Towers a couple of weeks ago (school trip) & have massively got my roller coaster mojo back!

Not keen on heights when you've got time to think mind you. Nemesis, no prob. Cable cars.....eeeeuuuurrrrgh.

Anyway, in response to OP, Thorpe Park is much more a teens & adults park I believe - it does recommend the ride for over 12s.

(IME most over 12s have seen the film - I haven't, so I don't know how inappropriate it is...they're 15 cert at the cinema, aren't they?)

Chathappy · 14/07/2010 23:01

It also splatters (water) blood on you half way round.

I think if a young person is on this ride and hasn't seen the film then it's probably just another ride to them and it's not particularly scary apart from the actual rollercoaster being scary (like all the other ones).

I reckon lots of under 18's (as in teenagers) have probably seen Saw anyway !

Thorpe Park is getting a lot more 'grown up' now with bigger rides etc and seems to be catering more towards teenagers/adults these days.

The film/ride are a bit grim, but I guess it's what floats some people's boat

Did anyone ever do that Alien experience in Leicester Sq.? You were told if an Alien grabs you, leave with them and they'll take you to the nearest exit.

I was so scared when one approached me in my "spaceship chair" I put both feet in his chest and pushed him flying across the room before literally running over my XBF's back and out of the exit.

I had to go and apologise to the guy in the "suit" at the end, I was so .

He did let me try the Alien head on though.

I feel so old.

And actually it would be no less horrendous than something happening on the Club Penguin Fluffy Puffle ride, if innocent folks were harmed, but I can just see The Sun, Mirror, Star and Mail headlines now...."JIGSAW REVENGE - CURSED SAW MASSACRE" etc blooming etc..
