to be put off Radley handbags

because of the ridiculous, 'cute' dog logo that hangs off them?

If you've got past the mind-boggling, obscene, outrageous price and the sort of people who carry them, then yes you are unreasonable to be put off by the dog........

traceybath · 14/07/2010 13:06

They're not my cup of tea at all.

But I don't do 'cutesy' stuff really.

trice · 14/07/2010 13:07

The dog is naff but they are stuck with it. The handbags are reasonably priced and quite well made. If you like that sort of thing. Mine was around £40 in the sale. I wouldn't spend hundreds on one.

ShatnersBassoon · 14/07/2010 13:08

The dogs are removable for a good reason.

Rocklover · 14/07/2010 13:10

They are hideous and I wouldn't buy one if it was the last handbag on earth. I really hate cutey pie clothes and accessories.

GeekOfTheWeek · 14/07/2010 13:10

Hate them.

gramercy · 14/07/2010 13:10

It's not the dog logo that puts me off but the 50 and 60-something women who carry them with a 'sassy' "I'm stylish, me" attitude. Cringe.

bamboobutton · 14/07/2010 13:11

not all radley bags have the crappy dog thing on them.

i was choosing one for christmas and had no idea i had chosen a radley until i looked at the price label.

lorelilee · 14/07/2010 13:22

I just think they are the antithesis of style - why would any grown up want to pay upwards of £70 to look like an eight year old child?

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 14/07/2010 13:23

I love my radleys

GeekOfTheWeek · 14/07/2010 13:28

The world would be boring if we all liked the same fliss.

kickassangel · 14/07/2010 13:30

hmm, i have a black one. dog is removeable. it's not cutesy at all, v plain.
also have a travel bag which is perfect for hand luggage on flights. that is dark brown & plain.

i got them v cheap from outlet, don't have the dog showing & they're quite simple. i avoid the 'silly' ones. but they are really well made, last years and just seem to have the right kind of pockets & things i need to fit the crap in that i carry around.

what i really wouldn't want is a 'coach' bag, which has the label all over it.

LarkinSky · 14/07/2010 13:32

Gramercy - My 50-something Mum buys Radley bags and purses exactly because they make her feel stylish!
Her granddaughter likes the dog on them too. It's not like she matches them with a cutsey pink hairbow and layered skirt. The rest of her is pretty much a standard M&S-JohnLewis-Monsoon hybrid.

They do seem well made, I must say, and in tones of dark brown and black, they never struck me as cute to be honest. Cute is anything from Clare's Accessories.

Firawla · 14/07/2010 13:35

i think they are nice but would just remove the dog

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 14/07/2010 13:36

tonyperottiusa.com I like these, they are availiable in the UK and are coloured with vegetable dye so are better for the environment (polishes halo).

I don't like radly very much.

FakePlasticTrees · 14/07/2010 13:38

If you're looking at a plain, sensible leather one, then the dogs are removable (or just tuck inside) and they aren't really 'cute', and rather long lasting and well made - but then they do have some stupid odd interesting things in their range...

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 14/07/2010 13:42

Ummm, like this plastictrees?

cakeywakey · 14/07/2010 13:43

I love my Radleys too, but only buy the 'sensible' ones without the pictures and cutesiness on them.

Like Kickass, I buy them the following season from the Radley outlet shops or Boundary Mill when they're a lot better value. I think that the leather is gorgeous and the styles are lovely

ifancyashandy · 14/07/2010 13:45

Can't stand. They are so neat. They make me a bit itchy.... !

sungirltan · 14/07/2010 13:47

i quite like the dogs. but i wouldn't buy the handbags because they are so dull to me!

LaserWidow · 14/07/2010 13:59

I've got a passport cover thingie - please tell me that's not mumsy or just downright shameful? It's pink but I can't remember any more detail.. but there may be a hint of canine there

Yep, I am shallow enough to care what everybody else thinks!

I haven't used it yet but now I think if the booking-in clerk raises her eyebrows and sniffs discernably, I might just collapse in Terminal 2...

melikalikimaka · 14/07/2010 14:16

I have three, but I don't use them! I want to keep them nice in their dust bags, God knows why? They are well made and novelty.

But the grab handles really annoy me as I like to sling bags over my shoulder. I am mid forties, I shall have to start using them now if they are going out of fashion. My friend had one and I really liked it, was the fireside one, mainly green, about £140 I think. I love dogs so I think that's why I was drawn to them too.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/07/2010 14:23

I don't like them, there are far better quality bags for the money that aren't so obviously a 'label' which I'm afraid does make me cringe a bit.

Melika - you keep them in their bags and have never used them?

melikalikimaka · 14/07/2010 14:25

I know, I know, I like to keep them for best!

Eve4Walle · 14/07/2010 14:25

My Mum loves her Radley bags. Which says it all really.
