To wish people wouldn't keep going on about Ocado?

How wonderful if you can afford it, but seriously, mysupermarket.com says my typical weekly shop would be £17 more with Ocado! That's £68 a month! That's just not feasible for most people.

I like Ocado because I have more money than patience.

I have tried Sainsburys/Tesco but they sucked.

Dropdeadfred · 13/07/2010 14:22

Ocado just rule. The end.

PersonalClown · 13/07/2010 14:23

I love Ocado but I am biased!
Dp has started driving for them and now we get 15% off and free delivery!

"How wonderful if you can afford it, but seriously, mysupermarket.com says my typical weekly shop would be £17 more with Ocado! That's £68 a month! That's

Ocado is not cheaper - in fact it is signifficantly more expensive. But if you can afford it, why not?

I can't afford to shop in harrods but doesn't mean that I should begrudge those that do.

SoupDragon · 13/07/2010 14:29

I agree with wannabe. Can we only say how wonderful things are if they are also cheap?

FairyMum · 13/07/2010 14:31

I am quite happy to pay the little bit extra for Ocado. I don't want to eat a chicken bought in Tescos for 1 pound.

Ah Morthloth - there are so many reasons I love you

EN - so what if people 'go on' about Ocado, they offer nice food at a good price - if you don't like them, don't use them - no need to whinge about them being suggested to other people.

Morloth · 13/07/2010 14:46

moaningminniewhingesagain · 13/07/2010 14:48

I like them too. Only use them occasionally, as a treat but then I don't mind shopping IRL.

I think it is slightly more expensive, but better value. Excellent fruit and veg, lovely chicken, deli filler is lovely and I can't eat any others after trying it.

Customer service also fab. But I like to stroll around the supermarket with my wailing children, stealing grapes and pissing off the old dears

MrsGangly · 13/07/2010 14:50

I love Ocado and really think that I have spent less on food since getting their deliveries, partly because I don't do impulse buying at the supermarket and because I have to be really careful to plan our meals for the next fortnight when I am making an order so much less gets wasted.

All the food has a really good use by dates though, so I've never had anything going off or unreasonably close to the use by date.

Delivery cost is not too bad either, if you are not choosy about when you want to have your food delivered. Last night's delivery was free at 10pm for us.

juicy12 · 13/07/2010 14:50

But I don't think Ocado is necessarily more expensive, especially if you use the Waitrose Essentials range, which I do. Also teh delivery slots are much more convenient than the Tesco 2 hour ones, the Customer services are much better than Tesco and the food is loads nicer. Job done

CatIsSleepy · 13/07/2010 14:52

usually do ocado but got a tesco's delivery when we were on holiday on scotland- it was fine, but it cost pretty much the same and the veg weren't as good. Plus they don't stock Nature nappies. So am sticking with ocado, ta...

CatIsSleepy · 13/07/2010 14:53

in scotland

pippylongstockings · 13/07/2010 14:59

Dont deliver here in sleepy Devon so no idea just a vague longing as everyone is always banging on and on about them !

OrmRenewed · 13/07/2010 15:03

I do too OP.

Because they have given me a hard time at work today. Bastards! With their stupid bloody overly fussy invoicing system.

I heart ocado.

I always spend less in waitrose too because i'm more careful ad the don't sell many shiny things.

BramblyHedge · 13/07/2010 17:11

Dont trust mysupermarket - I did my own Sains/ Ocado comparison and there was £2 in it.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 13/07/2010 17:15

I love Ocado.
They turn up on time
The food is to die for
The customer service/drivers are fantastic
The food is mostly price matched to Twatsco
The food turns up indate and it's excellent quality so I don't throw any away
I get free stuff.
It's only as expensive as I want it to be.

What more can I ask for?

I can't afford to shop in Tesco or Asda.

I can't afford to throw out half my potatoes each week because they are rotten. I can't afford to throw away my bananas because they've gone black just a few hours after delivery. I can't afford to throw my meat away because it has gone off long before the sell-by date. I can't afford to throw out my pate because, when I take off the outer wrapper, it has green mould in it. I can't afford to throw out my oranges because they suddenly go soft and mouldy the day after they're bought. I can't afford to throw away my apples because one rotten apple contaminates the whole bag.
I can't afford to throw my milk down the drain because it has such a short sell-by date that I don't get chance to use it all.

Get the idea?

All these things happened to me in the dark days when I used Tesco and to my mum at Asda.

How can it be saving money when half the shopping has to be thrown away?

With Ocado, I get my shopping from a specially constructed warehouse, not from the shop floor left-overs at the end of the day. It's properly stored and chilled. The drivers are saints.

I'll happily pay them extra. They're worth every penny.

MollieO · 13/07/2010 19:12

I use Ocado all the time and have the delivery pass. It was an absolute god send when my mum was ill - I could get deliveries sent direct to her and know that the driver would take it into her kitchen and unpack it for her.

I like their Iphone app and do most of my shopping that way. I think you have to shop carefully but when I did a Tesco comparision on my order Tesco worked out more expensive.

I like the fact that it supplies Waitrose branded goods. Waitrose has one of the best ethical policies of the main supermarket, eg they won't stock our local farmer's organic turkeys at Christmas because of the poor working conditions of his labour force. Doesn't stop Harvey Nicks, Selfridges etc stocking them though.

I have used Tesco delivery in the past but got feed up with getting most of my weekly shop with an expiry date of the next day. I'd end up getting it all free but what I wanted was food that wasn't practically out of date. They also did the weirdest substitutions.

ABitTipsy · 13/07/2010 19:22

I use Ocado because of the quality. I used to use Tesco but there is a noticeable difference in quality and Ocado definately comes out on top, especially for meat and fresh fruit/veg. I don't mind paying the extra whilst we can afford it. And I know I will get my whole order delivered as they tell you online what's out of stock.

pigsinmud · 13/07/2010 21:55

Very true MollieO. They have improved their app now and it fits my ipad perfectly. I use Ocado more frequently now than I used to as it is so easy with the app.

AlCrowley · 13/07/2010 22:23

I have never had a problem with Tesco.

The drivers are always friendly and cheerful. I don't regularly get substitutions and if I do, they're generally sensible ones. Any problems have always been refunded quickly and politely after a quick call to customer services. They've only ever once been late. They've never cancelled on me. I got ALL my christmas stuff with no problems too! They collect any used carrieer bags for recylcing. They offer to carrythe shopping to the kitchen for me. I've even had drivers standing holding the baskets up for me - while I empty them item by item as I get mine delivered without carriers - because I was pregnant and they didn't want me bending over!

I got a voucher last week for £15 off an Ocado shop so I thought I'd try it. Went to mysupermarket.com and the Ocado shop was £19 more than the Tesco one!!! Was £4 cheaper to stick to Tesco AND I got a petrol voucher too.
