Of a normal Fiat (i.e with three seats?)

Was in Tesco carpark earlier and saw this - 5 girls all about the same age so presumably friends. They were going quite slow as it was a car park but obvioulsy they had to have come from somewhere and they wouldnt have been crawling at 5 miles an hour then.

I took down the license number, then thought 'Oh its probably a one off as they are not her children' but now I am sitting here wondering (and judging).

What should I do, or should I leave it?

I am not sure. One would imagine that it was 5 friends. a one off incident. and i am not sure if a selt belt works properly if it goes round 2 slim 5/6 yr olds or whatever. and of course this is not an ideal situation. at all.
but ........
am not sure that i would report it to the police. what is your gut instinct telling you to do ?

SloanyPony · 11/07/2010 21:23

Leave it. There's no point dobbing on them as I think the police need 2 independent witnesses, or some such.

Just tutt and move on.

wannaBe · 11/07/2010 21:25

leave it. No not ideal but would imagine just a one off, and certainly not uncommon when we were kids..

funnysinthegarden · 11/07/2010 21:26

aye, tut and move on......

parakeet · 11/07/2010 21:48

No!
Report it.
I agree it would be unlikely to result in a prosecution but the police may pop round to tell them off. It might be enough to scare them out of doing it again.

It is so unfair for the adults to put the girls in this unsafe situation.

I'd call the police. They'd get a fine, and have to find suitable transport before they could continue their journey.

Dh is a copper and says he loves pulling over people who have unrestrained kids in the car and describing in detail, what the consequences to the children could be.

SloanyPony · 11/07/2010 21:53

You cannot report a random member of the public for allegedly doing something with no witnesses and get them fined. Otherwise, people would do it as revenge/practical jokes.

Nothing will happen if you contact the police. They might thank you and tell you they are on to it, but nothing will happen!

hairytriangle · 11/07/2010 21:54

I'd report it.

thisisyesterday · 11/07/2010 21:54

i would report it

you can probably do so online if you look up your local police force

frasersmummy · 11/07/2010 21:55

Even if the police contacted them surely they could just deny it.

SloanyPony · 11/07/2010 21:58

If you are not a police officer yourself, you are not deemed to be a "trained observer".

BrittanyBeers · 11/07/2010 21:58

I thought the law was carseats/restraints only had to be used if they were available/could be used.

They might have been the same family, but couldn't afford a 7 seater.

I'd leave it.

bit different to having 5 kids in the back of a car though isn't it

i would hope that they might follow it up at some point just to check they aren't regularly carrying the kids around like that
