..Grandad says "yes, but be quiet"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {angry]..surely im nbu to this this is gross (yes i know it happens but to actually hear its ABOUT to happen sets your teeth on edge!)..but for grandad to think its acceptable to let him do it when the toilet is only yards away..but why "be quiet"??..how much noise is he going to make doing a wee in the water??..confused?..disgusting!..we jumped out and went to the big pool (this pool was jam packed with children and babies) in the hope the water filter and chemicals would sort it out before dd tried putting her head under water again, but 'Grandad' followed us in there, leaving wee boy and younger brother (about 4 and 2!) in small pool alone while he -did- -a- -wee- -himself- swam in the big pool!!?/eeh i dont know! LOL

If you worry about people peeing in swimming pools then you need to invest in your own private pool in the back garden!

victoriascrumptious · 11/07/2010 19:40

YABU Children wee in the water all the time if you think otherwise you are a tad nieve.

Wee is sterile when it comes out. It only starts to harbour nasty bugs once it has been sitting stagnant for a while. There is no need to wait for water fliters to do anything. Even IF there was anything in wee the chlorine would kill it dead

faddle · 11/07/2010 19:41

gross. Although I think I have seen worse, when at 9 years old, I was swimming in the pool and turned around to see an 8yo boy standing on the side of the pool PEEING INTO THE WATER.

pjmama · 11/07/2010 19:41

It's a bit ick, but we all know it happens! That's what all the chemicals are in there for I guess. I always try to encourage my DCs to say when they need to go, so we can get out and go to the loo but they never do!

Far worse is the bobbing turd...

PinkChick · 11/07/2010 19:43

LOL yeah a number 2 would have been worse...sorry..i already said i know it happens all the time, what i said was it sets your teeth on edge KNOWING someone is stood a foot from you doing one when dd is practicing her underwater ducking!..and that i thought grandad was at blame for not bothering to take him to toilet

Bobbing turd.

Love it.

Would make a fantastic nickname.

Easywriter · 11/07/2010 19:49

YADNBU

We all know it happens but surely children who aren't taught to use the loo rather than the pool will just use the pool.

My DC's know it is wrong to wee in the pool and (mostly) get out of the pool (they're only 6).

Grandad is setting a v. bad example!!

fragola · 11/07/2010 19:50

Just to be a pedant, wee is only sterile until it reaches the urethra, where it picks up bacteria etc. Obviously not an issue in chlorinated water though.

pozzling · 11/07/2010 19:52

YANBU.

Of course it happens, but that doesn't mean that children should be told it's ok.

mitochondria · 11/07/2010 19:52

Swim nappies do not contain wee. Only poo. So if there are any babies / toddlers in there wearing a swim nappy - they will be weeing in the pool.

I do think Grandad should have said "no, get out and go to the toilet" though - as if you can, you should.

Easywriter · 11/07/2010 19:54

Old folk just can't resist piss tho' can they?

Chunkamatic · 11/07/2010 19:57

YANBU, Grandad should have told him to use the loo but maybe it was too much like effort for him.

I have never ever dared to wee in the pool since being a child and someone telling me that some swimming pools had introduced a cemical in the water that turns the wee red so everyone will know what you did. It has been enough to scare me to hold it in since!

CoupleofKooks · 11/07/2010 19:59

even my 1 year old knows to get out of the pool to do a wee

everyone knows some people are weeing in there, but as adults we are meant to teach our children the preferred behaviour

jooseyfruit · 11/07/2010 19:59

we were in my aunties communal pool
in Spain, ds1 (then aged 3) asked if he could have a wee in the pool. We said no, he would have to get out to do one.
He got out and stood on the edge and pee'd into the pool.
Not quite what we meant.
Bloody kids.

sanfairyann · 11/07/2010 20:01

yanbu - we all know they do it but they shouldn't be told it's ok. dh once told ds2 he could wee in the pool as he also couldn't be arsed getting out . next thing, ds 2 gets out, stands by side of pool, pulls down pants and gets ready to wee think dh got him to stop in time

lozster · 11/07/2010 20:11

Two conversations overheard in the showers at a well known health club in a wealthy Manchester 'burb....

  1. 'Don't you dare drop that shampoo bottle on the floor!'; 'But Mum it's empty'; 'oh sorry, ok then' Clonk.

  2. 'Mum - it's not ok to poo in the shower is it?'; 'No darling of course it isn't'; 'Mum is ok to wee in the shower?'; 'Yes of course dear'.

RollaCoasta · 11/07/2010 20:13

Not as bad as something I experienced a few years ago (watched from the cafe - ds and friend in pool).
Someone stepped out of the pool bleeding, and was led off by a first aider, at which point the pool attendants leapt into action with their brooms, and proceeded to sweep all the blood back into the pool - none of the swimmers were moved at all! Ugh,

sanfairyann · 11/07/2010 20:23

bleurgh rollacoasta

just reminded me of another story dh told me. he sometimes takes dd swimming so she goes in the male changing room with him afterwards and they go in the shower together. the shower water runs off his willy as he's washing and dd pipes up in a loud voice 'stop weeing on the floor daddy' pmsl

Bingtata · 11/07/2010 20:55

Coupleofkooks your 1 year old is 100% potty trained? I'm seriously impressed.

CoupleofKooks · 11/07/2010 21:37

god no he isn't fully trained at all! and he is nearly 2 into the bargain

we practice Elimination communication (very gentle style of early potty use) so he understands about weeing in toilets etc, but he doesn't always manage it! he still wears a nappy when not at home
but he knows that you are not MEANT to wee in the swimming pool - it isn't a toilet or potty, after all - and will often tell us that he needs to get out to do a wee

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/07/2010 21:39

No, YANBU at all. It might happen, but an adult shouldn't openly condone it. The prospect of floating about in old wee is precisely what stops me from swimming in public pools

pagwatch · 11/07/2010 21:41

publis swimming pools are just swimming in other peoples pee though.
I don't know why anyone uses them tbh.

I make DS2s therapist take him. She knows the truth of it but frankly she loves him more than me..

[lie]

Bingtata · 11/07/2010 21:43

That is still pretty impressive even at nearly 2! Agree though, even though I had a nightmare training DD, she always knew to go for wee before swimming and ask to get out if needed to.

SwimSafe · 22/01/2011 23:15

Urine contains urea, ammonium and other chemicals. These chemicals react with chlorine to form trichloramine, chloroform, cyanogen chloride and many other toxic reaction products.

Trichloramine causes lung damage and asthma, chloroform and cyanogen chloride cause brain damage and spinal deformities.

Under no circumstances is it acceptable to urinate in the water. Indeed everyone should be pressure washed before you get in the pool.
