PIL Cutting hair

shanks313 · 10/07/2010 21:53

Yesterday PIL were looking after DD1 3 and DD2 2 for the afternoon.
We picked them up at 6pm and I soon realised that DD1 fronge was much sohrter but didnt say anything.I thought that either DH would notice which he didnt or PIL would say anything but they didnt.
We left and I told DH and we had a good look.DD1 fronge has been cut very short and its very uneven..looks absolutely awful.
Im still fuming now as they didnt ask our permission to cut her hair or tell us that they did it.
DH called them and asked about it and it turns out it was FIL as he thought hair was getting in her eyes.
What would you do in this situation?

Personally I would be furious, but then I have a shitty relationship with the IL's.

Just tell them that I future you would like them to ask you before they took the scissors to your childs hair - and surely if they thought hair was getting in her eyes a clip would have been a better option!

'in future' sorry using iPhone!

DuelingFanjo · 10/07/2010 22:00

I would be really upset that they didn't ask. At the very least they could have asked one or the other of you but to do it whithout discussing it with either parent is not on IMO.

As for what to do - I think perhaps your DH should tell tehm both that when it comes to stuff like that they must make sure it's ok with you first. Nothing you can really 'do' now, unless you want to punish them.

Her Fringe ??

I would make it clear that you appreciate they had dd's interests at heart but you will make arrangement for hair cutting in the future.

Rockbird · 10/07/2010 22:01

Wish I knew. I've been trying to grow out dd's fringe since Christmas. It's now only about a centimetre longer than when I cut it last. Either she has the slowest growing hair in history or MIL has been trimming it as and when. The rest of her hair is growing like fury . I know it's MIL but have no proof, DD is only 2, too young to question.

Fronge lol. A salon near me offers extensions to give you a fuller fridge.

I would be furious OP. Just tell them in future that they are not to cut hair and tell you if they have concerns about it getting in her eyes.

proudnsad · 11/07/2010 08:07

Arrrggghh my mother did this to ds's fronge () drove me nuts!! Think it was also because it made me feel judged, you know 'honestly your poor unkempt child couldn't even see through his hair'. I just asked her not to do it in as friendly, light way as I could really...and she didn't do it again though she mentions how long his hair is constantly. Stupid moo.

bintofbohemia · 11/07/2010 08:12

Sympathies - my SM gave DS1 his forst hair cut without asking and she is not a hairdresser. Massive damage done to the relationship because when confronted (very nicely and politely) she got really defensive and shitty.

katiestar · 11/07/2010 09:23

It is hard when they are growing a fringe out and its still too shourt to clip back properly but long enough to get in her eyes.I am sure she did it in your DDs best interests because it was getting in her eyes.
I would just mention in passing that she is growing out her fringe and m,ake sure you send her with it securely clipped up

5yearsto40bob · 11/07/2010 09:29

I'd be very annoyed too.
Take her to an expensive hairdresser to get it sorted and send them the bill!

CheerfulYank · 11/07/2010 09:46

I'd be annoyed, and it takes a lot to annoy me. Just sayin'!

My Nana did this to me when I was three. We'd been on holiday and I had a tan everywhere except my forehead so my Mum decided to put off trimming it as I was a bridesmaid at a wedding.

My Nana took the scissors to it when Mum was out and I ended up being the wedding with a really short, wonky fringe and bright white forehead.

My Mum was at the time but now it's just a funny story.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't warrant getting angry about I don't think but I would definitely make it clear it's not to happen again.
