DD2 reacting to paint she put on her face. Should I give an anti-histamine?

I have cleaned off the paint (kid's poster paints) but she has come out in angry looking welts.

She is 19 months old and weighs about 10kg.

I have an older dd with allergies so I have anti-histamine in the house. It says for children over 2 but gives the dosage for dd2's weight.

Would it be better to treat it with a little bit of hydocortisone cream, the anti-histamine or just leave it?

Thanks

tricky as it would be classed as giving you medical advice.
The age limit is for a child 5 months older than yours- think you could call gp (if you haven't already now) or ring NHS direct.

Piriton, eg chlorphenamine ?sp is suitable for 12months onwards and is sold for children over 1 over the counter.

hth

I would give it myself.

I gave ds piriton for chickenpox at around that age and having seen my own dd react to face paint I personally would do it.

NHS direct always err on the side of caution - they wouldn;t even advise me to take beconase whilst pg despite my Dr telling me afterwards it was perfectly safe - they will not go against the advice onthe bottle.

I thought it was piraton syrup you meant - well if it's over 12 months, then yes - give her that.

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses. The reaction started to go down fairly quickly so I didn't give her anything in the end.

I was just wondering what others would do in this situation.

On dd1 I was a lot more nervous and would probably have taken straight to the doctors but I am calmer now and tend to wait and see a bit instead of panicking.
