How do schools deal with egg and nut allergies at lunchtimes?

My little boy is 5 and in reception class, he has an epipen as he is severely allergic to eggs and nuts, at the moment he has his packed lunch on a "special" table with a friend. We would like him to eat with all the other children but the school think this would not be possible as they can't be sure who would sit next to him. The only real problem could be if someone with an egg sandwich sat next to him. I just wondered how other schools deal with this?

i can't imagine why that would be a problem. surely if they can make sure he sits on a special table with a particular friend they could ensure that he sat at the end of one of the normal tables with a friend?

how bizarre....

Have a look here - I have met the lady that set this up and she is amazing, she has written a good book on allergies too. Now, I am rubbish at links but will try:

My son is allergic to nuts and we use Allergy Buddies at his school as well! Alice actually set up the program at school and it has been fantastic for us
