Gah, just when we thought we were over the egg allergy...

DS1 had quite a severe egg allergy from being about a year old or so. Just before he started school he had a RAST test, which had gone down to grade 3, so they did an oral challenge, which he appeared to pass.

However, since we have been reintroducing egg his eczema has returned with a vengence and he has periodically been sick for no apparent reason. Anyway, the other day I decided to make a dairy free (ds2 has milk allergy) quiche for dinner and arrrrgh... DS1 ate some then started complaining his tongue was feeling tingly. He then projectile vomited everywhere. We gave him piriton and he was back to normal quite quickly, but at which point he said "oh yes, my tongue went funny like that when they gave me egg at the hospital". It seems he was so fascinated by what the nurses were doing he didn't like to say he was having a reaction .

So, anyway, it looks like he is still allergic to eggs after all . So back to the drawing board. One ds1 with allergies to egg, nuts, pulses, beans and kiwi the other with allergy to dairy and (I think) sesame. Oh yes, and a vegetarian in the house too (me). Mealtimes are such fun to prepare for when we need 4 different meals to cater for everyone.

Arrrrrgggghhhhh.....

omg sounds really difficult. Do you just spend all your time making food?

Sympathies....

Thanks. Mealtimes are a bit of a nightmare, but I thought they would get easier now that ds1 can have egg (till we realised that he can't). I was hoping to make life easier with the occasional quiche, omelette etc. Not to mention using quorn once in a while.

Ah well.

My ds was allergic to eggs . He did a food test with the Star study at cambridge , you know the guy who did a web chat on mumsnet the other day.
I asked him why ds still reacts to some things with eggs even though he passed the food challenge.
Let me try and find hi answer for you

sorry can't find his reply
but it was reassuring that these things take time and he will react to large amounts of egg for a while yet

thanks.
