Rash with lentils etc

any allergy experts out there?

Does anyone know if a small rash around tummy after eating lentils means I should stop feeing him lentils? (He is allergic to other stuff, but reactions are worse) I mean is there other damage going on on the inside that I can't actually see?

Is it dangerous to give babies food they have just a small reaction to?

I'm asking because a small rash doesnt seem like a terrible reaction... anyone? So can I harm him by giving him lentils occasionally? (they're so easy!)

I have never heard of an allergic reaction on a tummy from eating something. Not that I am an expert. My dd is allergic to peanuts an intolerant to soy, both legumes like lentils, peas etc. Lentil allergies are not uncommon. You need to get him tested I think, in case it gets worse.

He's being tested right now... lentils are off then!

We have a food diary so I am fairly certain its the lentils giving him the rash...

He's only one so can't speak - and seems to love the damn lentils!

Speaking from experience, I would also advise you to avoid lentils. I have some good news for you though... my 3 year old daughter used to be allergic to all dairy, soya, wheat, eggs, nuts and lentils.

Now she can safely eat all in that list, except for nuts and eggs (for which she has an epipen). Hope this is a morale booster!

Might be worth asking your GP to refer him to a paediatric allergy clinic/doc.

Baby barrister is right though to say that allergies do not necessarily show up on skin prick/blood tests. Sometimes just noticing an unusual symptom after feeding certain foods (red rashes, shortness of breath, funny stools, etc), could mean an "undetected" allergy that the hospital tests in isolation do not always reveal.

Good luck!

My DS tested negative on RAST for wheat yet broke out in massive hives 5 mins after eating a couple of spoons of spelt porridge so tests not always accurate - especially for wheat and soya i was told.

Anyway DS is allergic to nuts yet dietician told me to try him with lentils - what do you think of that?

thefaries - thats great news DS is allergic to dairy, egg, nuts and wheat - soya and lentils not sure as havent tried yet - so very encouraging.

fairies - that's so good to hear.
Lima - we've had some RAST tests but some came back negative...
Hmm.. must pay more attention to stool... (!) good idea.
