Does this sound like an allergic reaction?

A couple of days ago dd2 (18 months) had a sore looking chin and was a bit red around the mouth but it didn't look like anything to worry about.

Yesterday it seemed to be better. Then this morning I gave her a breadstick dipped in Nutella as a treat and her chin has flared up bright red again.

I have an older dd with egg allergy, eczema, asthma, hayfever but until now dd2 showed no signs of anything like this.

Does it sound like a reaction to the Nutella? She is a messy eater and it was on her chin and around her mouth. Or could it be it just irritated her skin?

If so it is probably the hazlenut and that worries me.

DD1 reacted several times to egg but in a different way.

Thanks

Meant to say she had the breadstick & Nutella the other day when her face flared up too but had it a couple of times before with no reaction.

allergic reactions do not always happen on the first exposure. Sounds like it might well be an allergic reaction - my DS sometimes reacts to things in this way. I know this isn't very scientific at all, but you could try putting a bit of Nutella on her skin, e.g. back of knee or something... if she gets a reaction to that you'll know it was definitely the Nutella...?

would suggest you go off to the doctor and ask for a referral and some tests. Meanwhile avoid any nuts. It could be an allergic reaction and if they react to one nut they may develop allergies to other nuts. She is too young to say if it is affecting her throat and better safe than sorry.

You can develop an allergy to things eaten safely for years.
