DS2 is covered again this morning and am trying to think if he had ANYTHING out of the ordinary or didI? Only thing was I had a hot choc before bed (I am BF) so maybe too much dairy? Am going to switch to goat today.
Do you have to actually be allergic to have eczema from something? Sorry if that sounds a daft qestion. I am at my wit's end with the neverending scratching. I don't like to give him Vallergan but may have to today as he is gouging his head again and we have only just recovered from infected eczema.
Any ideas welcome. Sorry to be so disjointed I dont sleep anymore.

Should add I have very little dairy, he has had yogs with no reaction and two weeks exclusion made no difference. Heslept in a vest last night so couldn't be heat...

what creams are you using on him?

sometimes eczema is because of an allergy, sometimes its just there for no reason.

belgo · 29/05/2010 08:12

If he can eat yogurt with no problem, and two weeks exclusion has made no difference, then I wouldn't cut diary from your own diet.

Any soap/washing powder/material that could be causing the eczema?

misdee · 29/05/2010 08:14

have u used suncream on him?

turtle23 · 29/05/2010 08:18

We use the same washing powder and double rinse. He sleeps in the same bed every night and sometimes he is really clear, somtimes covered.
I have kept a food diary, etc.
Currently using 50/50, hydrocortisone when bad and whenever I remember using epaderm too during the day. I use epaderm to wash him, balneum in the bath. Sigh.
Does seem to be hideous while teething though.

No. no suncream. i keep him in the shade naked if it's hot.

Have a homeopath appt for him on tuesday. Will try anything. One thing that made it worse was a beeswax baby cream....all organic and made for eczema.

has he been in the garden? exposed to cut grass?

turtle23 · 29/05/2010 08:22

Yesterday we were indoors all day. He has rolled about in grass with no effects. I did NOTHING different. I just despair.

Is it possible for teething to do it? He is biting my chin as I type..

Could be the garden/grass/flowers.

My dd1 had bad eczema as a baby but for the past couple of years (she is 4) it has been almost non-existent in the winter only to flare up in late sping - summer because she has a pollen allergy. It is fairly bad at the moment actually. Had to give her anti-histamine every night for the past week as she was too itchy to sleep.

We tried homeopathy when she was a baby. Whether it was a coincidence or not I'm not sure but after the treatment the eczema moved more into her lower body and cleared up on her face and arms.

belgo · 29/05/2010 08:25

I don't know about the teething but if you think that could be the cause then I don't see why not.

Perhaps is pollen, then...there is a tree that makes me sneeze a bit outside the window...

Thanks all. Use Ecover to clean, non bio liquid that double washes out, hoover lots, etc
Supppose it could be food that he hasn't reacted to before. Sigh. I'll probably never know.

cheese and yoghurt contain less lactose then milk etc.

But they all contain cow's milk protein, which is the comon cause of eczema in babies.

If it makes you feel any better my ds also gets unidentifiable eczema rashes and we are not exactly sure what he is allergic to. he has an appointment with the allergy clinic this august.

crunchbag · 29/05/2010 08:32

It could very well be the teething. When my ds was little his eczema would flare up whenever he had a slight rise in temperature.

Eczema isn't necessary linked to allergies.

Best go and be mummy now. Thanks al, will check back later.
