dairy allergies

bit of background
when i was very little i had an allergy to dairy products, i grew out of this allergy (mostly due to my stupid reception teacher who could have killed me but not the point) and have been abole to eat dairy products ever since.

i am now 17 weeks pregnant and seem to be allergic to some dairy products. it started with milk, then ice-cream, youghurt and cheese. then today i had a bread roll (which had milk in the ingredients) with a scraping of butter on it and i have been so sick ever since i'm also ignoring the fact that chocolate makes me feel ill (although not the extent the others do) and am still eating it VERY small quantities

so 3 questions really

1)where can i buy affordable, normal priced products that dont have dariry in them. ie a tub of icecream that costs £2 or a block of 500g cheese that costs no more than £4 were not particularly well off and cant really afford our food bill to go up right now especially with a baby on the way.

  1. why, why, WHY does my body continue to crave things such as cheesey mash and lasagne when it knows full well 9i cant eat it?

  2. please tell me this is just a pregnancy thing and will disappear once baby is born. its doing my head in wondering what food i will have to cut out next

Pregnancy does seem to do strange things to the immune system. In my case I now have a minor allergy to hazelnuts and apples - if I eat them my mouth becomes itchy. In my case it did nnot disappear (DD is 2), but it does go for some people.

I think you will just have to read labels carefully. Are you OK with soya? If you are, there is bread available in any supermarket that does not contain milk. You can use soya-based spread instead of butter. Alpro soya yogurts taste OK, but I think soya chees is disgusting. Are you OK with goats cheese?
