Your poor little dd, we are going through similar with our ds1, but he is 8 and at least understands what's going on (although isn't at all happy that we are making him eat gluten).

He was supposed to have his coeliac blood test done the week before last. Unfortunately the lab screwed up and lost the blood sample! Then he had a vomiting virus and hardly ate for a week, so now we are stuffing him full of gluten again ready for a retest.

We didn't find out that the test hadn't been done for nearly a fortnight, as we were waiting for them to inform us of the results, but obviously they were never going to come. Meanwhile ds struggled on eating gluten every day.

When the tests were ordered the doctor said the turn around time for Coeliac blood tests is really fast and she should have the results within a week.

The quick turn around might just be our area I suppose, but I know from experience that the mail system in the NHS can be really slow and that could delay you receiving a response.

If I were you, I would call the paeds secretary and ask if they have received the results yet.

I was wondering if our GP might have been copied in? I really didn't like the paed we saw, he was really condescending and made me feel like a fussy parent, until that is the blood form they had obviously filled in in advance from when she was seen for the same symptoms at 18 months fell out of her folder! They had talked me out of allergy testing that day (too traumatic) but had coeliac listed on that form at that time........rant over

yes would much rather deal with gp.

I hope your ds get sorted soon moosemama. Its not that I wish any of these poor babas a coeliac diagnosis but at least if its that it can be fairly easily managed (DP is gluten free we are kind of used to it at home anyway)

Thanks mspotatochip.

My ds was gluten free for four months before he was seen by a paed. The gp suggested trying it to see if he improved.

The paed was seeing him for something else, when we mentioned his symptoms and how he'd improved on a gf diet. He ordered the test and told us to put ds back on gluten for at least 3 months prior to the appointment. Then, once we'd started him back on it, we got a letter saying the appointment had been pushed back almost 8 weeks!

Ds has been really struggling since going back onto gluten and it affects his behaviour and concentration levels as well as his digestive system, so I rang the GP just for advice really and she said she could order the test herself and as he'd already been back on gluten for two months we could have it done that week and the results should be back with her within a week.

Need to speak to her again though really, as we're not sure how him not eating anything, let alone gluten, for 5 days might affect the results.

GP said if his results come back inconclusive she'd recommend keeping him gf for a month, then trying again.

We are taking him back off gluten as soon as the results are in either way though, as there's no way he can carry on like this whilst waiting for a biopsy and we have already seen the improvement in his behaviour and bowels when he is gf.

Hope you get the results soon and your dd feels better.
