I just had to take my (almost 3) DS in to the pediatrician and they decided to do a blood test. (I have celiac and they're thinking he might too.) I cried way more than he did, but if I'd known they were going to poke him with that big of a needle I would have had DH bring him in!

Poor little man...

Ok, done now.

awww its horrible seeing LO's poked with needles. when DS2 was little he had suspected meningitis when we reurned from a holiday in Rhodes. The stupid doctor took a needle that was for an adult to try ad get a drip in. It took 4 nurses to hold a 3 year old down and eventually i asked them to go and get a doctor who knew what size needles to put in his arm. Idiot didnt use paediatric needles. No wonder he couldnt get it in a vein. As soon as someone who knew what they were doing came, it was eazy peazy. He neednt have gone thro all that fear and pain. It has traumatised him, even now to needles.

I know, it's just awful! And he looked at me, sobbing, and said, "Mama, tell them no no no!" It honestly broke my heart. I'm completely immune to his tears if he's crying because he's in trouble or having a tantrum, but when he's hurting I just can't stand it!

He was fine as soon as they were done and pulled out Bob the Builder stickers though...

agree it's awful. Sometimes the nurses are better with needles than the doctors......I'm glad he got over it.

Poor you - terrible thing to go through

mumbar · 19/05/2010 22:02

OMG how awful.

I took DS 5 for allergy test blood test at childrens dept and they were brill.

He chose a DVD sat on my lap watching it with the arm taking blood from around me. They numbed his arm while 2 nurses held it firmly but gently. I chatted to him about the DVD and they took the blood. Honestly was better than I could ever imagine. I hope you can find a place near you that does the same if dc needs more blood tests.

Agree it is a good word, barrister. We live in a rural area so I don't know that there's one close by, but if it turns into a regular thing we will find somewhere else to go. The nurse was kind but very no-nonsense, and she couldn't find his vein right away so there was a lot of digging around in his poor little arm.

Mumbar, that sounds like as much fun as one can have in that situation. Wish I got to watch a DVD during my blood draws!

Aly, just re-reading your post, that's awful! I'd have been fuming.
