The latest one has been to a shampoo which because i had it left on my arms i rubbed on my skin and now am covered in a rash!!!

What makes allergies rear their ugly heads again after laying dormant?

Apparently it can be because you've had a major virus - according to my GP. I've redeveloped allergies after a 10 year break from them

AND they are worse than ever. Am not impressed at having to take five day courses of steroids if I go near a fir tree

Mine have waned and waxed over the years. Horrifically bad (actually worse ever tbh) when pregnant with dc3

Funnily enough the eczema (sp?) I had as a young child has flared up the past few months. I have always had a little on my forehead - apart from during pregnancy when it cleared up lovely - but recently I have been bleeding behind my ears just like I did as a littlie, and had horrible itchy dry patches on my legs.

Desensitisation is a three year commitment. I am struggling with it at the moment. It means weekly visitis to London for 12 weeks. 2 hour journey each way for me.

I have found the allergy care to be pretty shite. Noone seems to have a clue. And I am with a allergy specialist at the Royal London Hospital.

Has anyone had desensitisation?
Does it work?

I feel for you WMMC. Did you used to drink wine in your name???

Can I ask what you are being desensitised against.
I have a choice of dust/dust mites, Birch Trees or cats!!!

Royal London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green.

Yes the Dr said that dust would be the best.
It is really hard as it is a whole day out once a week for me. I would have to get my ds looked after all day and the dds picked up from school.
I know that in the long run it would change my life but I cant help worrying that it may not be worth it.

Have you noticed a real change so far this year as the pollen is bad? My eyes are mental and I have never had that symptom before.
Thank you for sharing. I dont know anyone else to ask.

Not sure this relevant/ useful - but I noticed my allergies dissapeared when I came off the pill and a friend of mine told me that her Dr had said that women's immunes systems are always changing as their hormones change (it is what makes us able to have a baby inside us and not reject it).

Now I only have my own anecdotal evidence - but is there any chance you have any hormone changes (eg. being pregnant/ changing hormonal contraceptive)?

Obviously may not make any difference to you - but is worth considering?

Cheers Pixieonaleaf.
That is really helpful.
I have until July to make my mind up. Although I may try and get an appointment sooner to get it started sooner.

I have noticed a real change in my symptoms over the years. Hormones play a huge part for me.

I think it's due to stress, I feel it on my body - as I have more stress my allergies come back. Nutrition is also very important, now it's spring so we eat useless food with no minerals, vitamins and a lot of additives
