Skin prick test, I don't trust the result... what do you think?

DD2 had her test this week, she's just turned 1. She had a bad reaction to egg when she came into skin contact with it when she was 7 mo, with a massive dark red patch and lots of hives around where the egg had touched her skin. So I have kept her off egg since. The skin prick test did show a reaction to both egg white and egg yolk, however not a bad one, there was a distinct hive there but it was much smaller than the positive control one (egg hive around 3mm, control hive 4mm). The consultant thinks she should be fine with things like cake and has asked us to try her at home, I am a bit scared though... what does everyone think?

I have a severe allergy to birch trees which developed last summer. Even having the prick test caused my throat to start closing again. Whopping great reaction on my arm as well. So as you can imagine I have been very nervous this year (not least of all because the NHS clinic were saying things like "God, that's so interesting, we don't get that many really really severe ones, do come back in and show us next time"). WTF????

I was told to carry strong antihistamines in my purse at all times. I think a reaction was about to kick off the other day as the nasty birch trees at work appeared to be coming out with their pollen (earlier than last year, oddly enough) and floating it everywhere, so when the eye and throat thing started off I took a couple of these and ... I was more or less fine! No A and E! No closing eyes! Breathing OK! Amazing!

So the advice to carry medicine around is probably a good idea. WRT seeing how allergic you are, I actually think this has to be a good idea as well, especially with children, so I would probably agitate for the hospital challenge thing others have posted about.
