DD is allergic to animal proteins in food, animal hair/saliva/dander and various other things (ie, different products/washing powders/perfumes etc.

We use only emulsifying ointment, betnovate ointment and oilatum shampoo for her hair.

She is allergic to boots own children's formula and ambre solaire - is there anything anyone recommends before I try the whole spectrum of creams?

Thanks

We have this every year on this board and i think the general concensus is that it is just trial and error and some people are oK with sun creams that others react to.

My DS is fie with the blue Nivea for children stuff.

\if you search the archive then there are loads of threads on this with more suggestions.

I think you can also get some on prescription.

Thank you, I guess I was looking for the magic solution then!

I am in Ireland and considering my doctor wouldn't entertain the idea that DD had a milk allergy (she was later blood tested and diagnosed while in hospital); I just daren't ask her if I can get a prescription sun cream...

I'll just have to trial a few more then. Was going to try the Simple one next.

if your child has a medical condition that requires suncreams then you are entitled to them on prescription. DD1 and DS1 both have chronic eczema and we get stuff on prescription...however it might be the one you need is not available on prescription.......

agree it is trial and error to find the one that suits the skin best.

TheBossofMe · 23/04/2010 08:12

The nivea kids one that goes on green is the only one out of 15 brands I tried that didn't make DDs excema horrendous

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/04/2010 08:15

My DD is OK with RoC stuff.

BlueBumedFly · 24/04/2010 21:05

Magic solution is Sun Sense - genius. DD ends up with bleeding wrists with any other sun lotion.

OkieCokie · 24/04/2010 21:08

Another vote here for Sun Sense Toddler Milk (SPF 50). You can get it in chemists, if they don't stock it they can order it for you. Expect to pay around £10-£12 for 125ml though.

BlueBumedFly · 24/04/2010 21:20

You can get sun sense on prescription too - thank goodness !

My child is allergic to lots of sun tan lotions - have tried many brands and on prescription too. On recommendation have tried Aloe Sunscreen by Forever and it's great!! Rubs in easily too unlike many of the others!! Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies - I have a vichy one that my chemist recommended, so I'll give that a go and if not successful will try your suggestions.

I get this

Moisturises beautifully too.

mylovelymonster · 30/04/2010 20:37

Forgot to say they do a trial size & free postage for a first order or Waitrose/John Lewis stock a fair bit of their range

jvc · 30/04/2010 20:37

Hi, my two DD's get eczema with everything but Uvistat which is also available on prescription. Change your GP if she's being difficult about allergies!

mrsfred · 30/04/2010 20:43

this is an interesting thread. DD1 suffers from eczema and the Nivea lotions are the worst culprits in her case. Just goes to show just how individual it is.

On recommendation, I used PS20 last year for both DDs, which was fine for their skin but did turn their costumes yellow! I have used the children's banana boat one in the past.
