Water softeners??

Hi, just wondred if anyone has a water softener and if having one has helped thier eczema.

We have just been on holiday and our sons eczema improved so much, less itching, redness etc. We have hard water where we live and went to cornwall where the water was soft. This is the only difference I can think of, other than the dog. I'm so hoping his skin problems are not the dog, we have had her for ten years and would hate to have to find her a new home.

Anything to help his skin would be great, he has to wear an easyfast suit 24 hours a day, two baths and loads of creams. He was crawling around the carivan in just his nappy!!!, usually as soon as air gets to his skin he claws and bites it.It was so precious to see him happy and to see beautiful skin. I want it all the time.

Can't really afford to have a water softner put in but will if it would help him, thought that this would be a good place to start my research as would get peoples honest answers.

bumping as we are considering softened water

why are you bathing him twice a day? I though bathing was to be avoided

i would honestly think the dog is the more likely culprit!!! could you try having him only in some rooms for a few days and see? make sure everyhwere is very well vacuumed etc.
bathing is definitely right, btw. my son has mild eczema and luckily we keep it under control with baths, oilatum and epaderm. the reason baths are good (for ref of prev person) is that eczema is like little holes in the skin where infection can get in, so bathing removes any impurities and moisturisers are a barrier to any fresh germs.

He has two baths with dermol in the bath and is 'washed' with dermol cream, then hydrocortisone, then hydromol really thick and then his easy fast suit, it takes from 30 - 40 mins each bath and it was so nice on holiday for him not to be clawing and biting himself.

His eczema is so bad it really effects all the family, him and his sister have allergies aswell.

'stinkypants' I think your right about the dog, I know cats affect him. It was so nice for him not to be covered in bandages and also I wonder if the summers hot how he's going to cope. Have given the house a mad clean today and will keep dog in kitchen and then my parents have offered to have the dog for a few weeks after their holiday to see if that helps.

I so don't want to rehome her but my boy has to come first.

oh i hope its not the dog too, but these things are pretty common culprits (types of things!!)
