Midge bites - massive reaction in adult

Every time my husband gets bitten by a midge on the leg, his leg swells up and the bite(s) develops into an open sore that requires antibiotics.

Sure enough, after a bit of gardening yesterday, his leg is looking like something out of Doctor Who. He is dosed to the eyeballs with piriton and legs are smeared with anti histamine. But we've been here before - he is going to end up with open sores smeared in iodine and an anti biotic prescription.

Does this happen to anyone else. Is he going to get progressively more sensitive to bites? Am I going to end up having to do the gardening MYSELF!!! Opinions please from those medical qualified or otherwise.

My sister gets this. Use loads of repellant, take yeast tablets during the season, and try to stay in if you can avoid twilight hours (or else be near a flame/smoke. My sis does go camping and loves the outdoors, so to somde extent also just accepts it. drink plenty when bitten also.

Thanks for the advice. I've taken him up a glass of water now - but what's the deal with yeast tablets?

The midges dont like the smell of them. Apparently the sweeter your blood, the more they like to feast. I think the yeast makes it more bitter smelling. Does wiork (I'm not medical btw - although my sis is - but I dont think the yeast is proven, just works for her)
