Giving baby with eczema sesame?

Hi all I wonder whether any of you can help? I have a 12 month old who has eczema. I am avoiding nuts until 3 as per the guidelines (both myself and husband have allergies and husband's sister has a nut allergy) but I wondered whether it is OK to give him sesame? I was thinking of giving him hummus. Also does anyone know whether I am supposed to avoid all nuts or just peanuts (can't remember what health visitor said it is so long ago!)

Thanks

Hi, new revised DoH guidance was issued last year and says:
Where a child has already been diagnosed with another kind of allergy (e.g. eczema or an allergy to foods other than peanut), or if there is a history of allergy in the child's family. Mothers are encouraged to talk to their GP, health visitor or medical allergy specialist before giving peanut to the child for the first time, because they are at higher risk of developing peanut allergy.

doesn't mention sesame.
The wait until they're 3 is no longer guidance, but DS is 3 now and DD nearly 1 and we're still wary as both of us have hayfever and DS has excema.

link to full guidance here.

Maybe check with HV re: sesame if you're really unsure. - I always think about taking a peanut butter sandwich next time I go to the GPs with the DCs and try them both on it just before we go in!

oh, it was just peanuts, not all nuts in the previous guidance. - there still seems to be debate on this one, one train of thought is that by holding off the peanut products whilst pg and BF, we could actually increase the likelihood of them having an allergy, whilst others say if they're exposed to a tiny amount during pg or BF, it can cause the sensitivity to be more likely. - I gave in yesterday when we had very little food in and opened a jar of passanda sauce which had peanut in. a tiniest fraction probably worked it's way through to one of DD's feeds by now and she's ok

sorry last post didn't make sense - others think that exposure during pg is better and that we're causing the increase by not exposing them - a bit like the arguement we overuse the antibac sprays etc. these days and kids need exposure to more germs not less!

Thanks for all your replies katechristie think I will hold off on nuts until I've spoken to HV but I might try him with a dab of tahini before I make hummous to see if he has any adverse reaction.

Although I've now just read that sesame allergy is quite common so not sure what to do now!

dd2 has had excema since a few weeks old- she has multiple allergies.

At new year she had bad reaction to a bit of cracker her sister gave her with sesame seeds on. When we had our latest tests it showed sesame and peanut allergies to add to te list and we now have an epipen.

Hold off or try a little on the skin first and have some piriton handy?
