Wheat Intolerance in pregnancy

Hi

My DSis has just found out that she is pg with her first baby hurrah - due Nov 16th, so very early days. She had her booking in appointment with the MW on Monday, and mentioned that is wheat intolerant and so eats a wheat free diet. She has been tested for coeliac disease but that was negative, but she gets terrible heartburn if she eats anything containing wheat.

Anyway, MW said she had never come across wheat intolerant pg woman before and had no advice to give my DSis other than that she might need fibre supplements "for when her bowels slow down" - lovely!

Has anyone else had any experience of this please, and are there any other supplements or other bits of advice that I could usefully pass on to my DSis? She is worried that in cutting out wheat she will be depriving her LO of essential nutrients, but I think the MW would have known that if it was going to be a problem?

Any advice appreciated - thank you!

Link below shows what is in wheat.

IMO, wheat is a good source of carbohydrate and is useful in food because of it's structure, makes good bread, pasta etc. but other grains can provide it's essential nutrients.

wheat
