Milk intolerance/allergy?

Hi all

Any help much appreciated......

Our little one comes out in blotches around his mouth when exposed to milk.

He was exclusively breast fed with no problems until about 4 months but when we put him onto regular formula his face became all blotchy.

He's been on Nutramigen since with no problems.

However now we are weaning we have the same issue. For example Boots's baby porridge (which contains milk) and Baby Plum Fromage Frais cause the same problem (despite being advised by the doctor to try them).

However none of this seems to cause him any 'internal' problems.

Has anyone had anything similar? We are hoping that this is just a sensitivity rather than an allergy (as I say there seems to be no internal effect) so can anyone suggest what to do or try next?

We've been told that allergy testing is inconculsive in someone so young.

my DD was intolerant of Dairy & a lot of other stuff too, such as food chemicals & tomatoes, so I had to make all her baby food myself,

its not as daunting as it sounds, & you can make bigger batches & freeze in ice cube trays & then decant the "ice cubes" into freezer bags, so you can then mix up recipes as you go....for example........frozen i cube of mashed carrot, & 1 of frozen mashed broccoli, either defrosted in the microwave, & well mixed & cooled, or in a heat proof bowl over a pan of boiling water.

if your worried about calcium, lots of foods bar dairy contain plenty....google dairy free calcium rich foods, but broccolli & carrots are both good, DD loved sweet potato & apple,

best non dairy milk alternative is Almond milk, as its calcium rich, & you can use that to make up batches of porridge or rice pudding & blitz them down to puree with a blender, & again freeze in ice cubes for later use, you can mix with mashed frozen fruits, & I used to add a little hemp oil too, as rich in all sorts of good nutritional stuff.....someone on another thread had the great idea of using coconut milk for cooking baby rice..........I found flaked rice the easiest & cheapest to use

on the go, mashed bannana is always good, nutritious & easy, just carry banannas, tub & a fork, & your sorted

& I also found that I could re-use the hip organic jars & lids to bottle your own foods.

Wash them thoroughly, fill with boiling water & microwave for 30 seconds.........pour away & fill with piping hot home made baby food mix,.......scald the lid with boiling water & screw back on tightly whilst everything is still piping hot.........you will notice as it cools, the seal button, which pops up when you open a jar, will l sink back down again....this is how you know the jar has a good seal, & it will keep safely for a week.......probably longer.

sounds complicated, but its not that bad at all, I used to spend a few hours every month or so topping up my freezer stocks or bottling baby recipes if I had a trip planned, you know exactly what DC eats, & as a bonus its much cheaper too.

you can also freeze breast milk, & use that for sauces too,

DD didn't show the same milk symptoms as yoy DC, but did with tomatoes, which she grew out of by the time she was 3

good luck
