Eczema and using protopic ointment?

Been to our routine dermatology appointment today and being given a new cream for dd. I am happy with dds progress but the new man we saw today noticed her mouth which is very dry and looked unsightly this morning. I do feel I should have been more hot with the moisteriser on her mouth lately, so partly my fault. Doing all the rest of her body, it sometimes slips my mind. He gave this new ointment called protopic. Is anyone using it? He recommended it on areas of her legs too where she has a little redness. However her being so allergic to so many things and foods, I hate trying out new things especially when I feel we have been coping/managing just with the diprobase cream. Can anyone give me any info on this or experiences please before I try it on her.

Hiya. My ds has severe eczema and lots of allergies too. He reacts to many creams including those he's been prescribed in the past... He now has epaderm (an emolliant, thicker than diprobase and can also be used as a soap), betnovate c (steroid cream - bit loathe to use to much of this!), Xepin (an anti itch - he's allergic to Eurex) and protopic.
We use the last one everywhere, including his face, as we cannot use a steroid cream in the amount that he needs on his face. It really does work on his face and quite quickly too. It also saves him quite a bit of distress as it gets sore and then if he eats something salty or vinegary it really hurts him and he cries inconsolably.
Best thing is to try a small patch first and take it from there...
Hope that helps?

what is a protopic? Not a steroid?

yes i use protopic it is very safe & works great on dry patches on the face etc , as far as i know it is not a steroid
Have you tried Aveeno moisturising cream ? i find it very good on DD & myself ,

Thanks for the replies. Just a bit sceptical with what I have read so far with reguards to a small number of users, later developing cancer etc. Not looked into it enough yet but has made me a bit weary on the first impressions.
