eczema - can cotton underneath polyester help?

DS gets eczeam and I have always dressed him in cotton which helps to minimise it. His school have now created a new uniform where the sports kit is entirely polyester, and not breathable fabrics. The 'polo' shirt is double layer plus they are expected to wear a 'rainproof' top which is also double layer polyester. The entire kit is specifically designed for the school so no possibility of buying cotton and adding logos etc.

In addition on games and gym days he wears it all day to minimise changing time.

Does anyone know if getting him a thin cotton undershirt would help the issue of him getting eczema when wearing man made fibres? Or indeed, one of those 'breathable', heat retentive / moisture wicking tops for sports?

Thanks

I would ask the school for an exemption - surely he can wear similar stuff in cotton?
